Shane was still on the phone. Mrs. Hastings wasn't saying anything now. There was nothing to say.
He heard a hitched breath on the other side of the phone.
'Mrs. Hastings, are you all right?'
She didn't reply for long minutes.
'Where is she? Where is Noel?' she asked at last.
'I have no clue.'
Hearing this, the breath on the other side started to sound concerned.
'But I'll get back to you as soon as I get something.' he quickly added.
'I hope you will. You're the only one after all.' Mrs. Hastings sobbed.
'What that means, sorry?'
'She was with you the last time we talked to her. She isn't picking her phone up ever since. You saw her last. You must know.'
There was suspicion in her voice. He hated that. Noel and Shane has been best friends since the beginning of their remembered days, her mother shouldn't be suspicious on him.
'Trust me, Mrs. Hastings. I know nothing. Though I won't stop without knowing.'
There was silence on the other side, but Shane could picture Noel's mother nodding with a stiffened neck. Sore from the concern.
He hung up.
