Ch.47 Not Time

MARISSA'S POV.

I hear my phone ringing causing me to wake up. It's 3 in the morning. Who the fuck could possibly be calling me at 3 in the morning?

The ringing stops.

I roll over on my bed and reach for my phone on my nightstand.

I have 7 missed calls from Monique.

I really hope she's not drunk and needs me to pick her up somewhere.

Last time she did that she was all the way in Long Beach!

But she's my best friend so of course I'd do it.

I call her back and she answers.

"Hey you called?" I ask in a very sleepy voice.

"Yeah um, Diego's in the hospital Marissa" she tells me with a crackly voice.

That wakens me up.

"What??" I ask her sitting up.

"He went to a party in South Central and, he was walking back to the car with his homies and, someone drove by and just started shooting" she says starting to cry.

"Oh my god" I say getting out of bed and immediately starting to change. "What hospital is he at??" I ask her.

"Glendale Memorial" she tells me and I hang up.

I put my hair into a quick messy bun and slide on my flip flops.

Dimples is at her sancho's house tonight so I have no one to watch Alex right now.

And I don't wanna go to my moms house or Ariana's house right now I just wanna go straight to the hospital.

I pick up Alex from his bed and quickly go outside trying to not wake him up.

I put him in his car seat and immediately go to the hospital.

When I get there and go in I see his mom Diana, dad Ernesto, brothers, Monique, Karina, and two of his homies. One of them has blood all over his shirt.

Diana and Monique quickly come up to me.

"What happened??" I ask her.

"Diego, was shot, 8 times, we don't know exactly where but, we do know there's some in his chest" Diana says. She looks like she's been crying.

"He's in surgery right now" Monique adds. "Is-is he gonna be okay??" I ask. They look at each other.

"The doctor said he, he doesn't know"

Monique says. I sigh and nod.

I suck in my lips and sit down and put the car seat on the floor in front of me.

My heart is pounding so heard I could hear it in my ears.

I have an uncomfortable feeling in the pit of my stomach.

Alexander eventually woke up. I thought he's fall back asleep easily but after seeing everybody he's wide awake.

I just look at him. It keeps me calm.

The next two hours felt like 10 years. I just wanna know if he's gonna be okay.

I just wanna hear the doctor says he's gonna be fine he's gonna wake up.

But that's not what he told us.

"Diego Lopez family" the doctor says coming out and we all get up.

"How is he??" Diana asks.

"Right now he is stable however he is not out of the clear just yet" the doctors starts.
