Time for the next hurdle of high school, lunch time. Big questions like where to sit, who to sit with, and do you go for the extra dessert. Now, usually Isolde would at least try to have a healthy lunch since taking her medication on an empty stomach could cause nausea, and she was headed there after lunch to get them from the school nurse. However, with all the walking she had done today her body and stomach were already rebelling so that wasn't an option.

Coach Boomer in a rare moment of understanding had let her leave a few moments before the bell to get a head start on the walk. As she walked into the empty cafeteria, she heard the bell that signaled the others were on their way. Taking a seat at the closest table she put her backpack on the table and laid her head on it. Breathing through the pain and wishing time would go faster so she could get some relief faster.

It was a voice that made her bring her head up, "You can't sit here." Picking up her head she looked this stranger straight in the eyes. "Well, I am sitting here, and I will be sitting here until the bell rings and I can go to the nurse. So, sit down or don't, pretty boy, but just leave me here in my misery." With that she put her head back on her bag and tried to wish the clock to move faster.

Warren's POV

Warren was having a typical hellish first day of school. Sophomore year was turning out to be just as bad as freshman was. He excelled at all his classes, but people were idiots and always felt the need to gossip. Ya, his dad was a super villain, he wasn't his dad. The fact that his mom was an angel of a woman and a hero didn't seem to be remembered by the study body.

As he stormed into the cafeteria, he headed toward the table he had claimed on his first day, knowing everyone was too scared by the villain's son since his evilness might rub off onto their perfect lives. What he didn't expect was someone to already be at his table. This freshman must not have been told who he was yet.

Putting his book down he tried to be civil. "You can't sit here." He said. The girl lifted her head and looked him in the eyes. He couldn't remember the last time someone besides his mom had looked him in the eyes when they spoke to him. What she said next surprised him even more, "Well, I am sitting here, and I will be sitting here until the bell rings and I can go to the nurse. So, sit down or don't, pretty boy, but just leave me here in my misery." She missed his shocked expression when she immediately put her head back down.

Warren took inventory of this tiny creature that made him feel like a real person for the first time in a while. She was tiny, he knew he was tall for 16 at 6 foot 3, but this girl couldn't top 5 foot. Her hair was pure white, and her eyes were a crystal blue that seems to be filled with as much if not more pain than his. He then noticed the crutches leaning on the table, they were almost child size, with her height that made sense, so he had almost overlooked them. What she said making a bit more sense now.

Without another word he quietly sat down at the table. Picking up his book he pretended he wasn't staring. Finally, his want to know more overruled his willpower. He casually spoke, "My name's Warren, by the way, not pretty boy." He thought she wouldn't answer him at first. Then she slowly picked up her head. "Hi. I'm sorry I was a bit of a bitch a moment ago. You haven't caught me on my best day, I'm Isolde but I go by Issy most times." Warren could understand that, no one was at their best the first day of school, and this girl seemed to have more problems than an average student. He made a dismissive hand motion, "Forget about it, it wasn't like I was prince charming." She gave him a slight smile.

She looked at him expectantly, "Go ahead." She said. He didn't act like he didn't know what she was talking about, "So, what's with the crutches?" She gave him a small smile, "Thanks for not pretending." He nodded, understanding that pretending things didn't exist didn't help anyone. "The crutches are a long story, you sure you want to hear it." He put his book back in his back. "Well we have an hour, think you can condense it into that?" he joked.
