That night you cried yourself to sleep. ‘Why did his words hurt you so bad? You’ve fought with people before. What made this time different?’ You knew deep down that he didn’t really mean what he’d said; it was just the anger talking. It was like a knife to your stomach that came out of nowhere. Who would have thought that soft sweet Riker Lynch could have a rough side?
After dating him for nearly a year and a half you thought you knew everything about him. How he liked his coffee with three sugars plus cream. How he never slept with the windows open and loved naps. Or how it took him a long time to wake up fully and was very cuddly in the morning.
Now you can’t even remember what the fight was about, it was that stupid. All you remember is that some words were said by both of you and both left crushed.
The only thing you want right now is a hug, just him there to hold you close. You want to apologize a thousand times to make sure he knows how completely sorry you are. In your head though you know that won’t happen. What you said was too cruel, he would never forgive you.
The worst part is he hasn’t even attempted to call or text. Just silence.
The next day you don’t want to do anything but lie in bed. You don’t even bother getting up to eat breakfast.
You hear a knock on the door and figure you shouldn’t be rude and just ignore it. So you pull yourself out from under the blankets and quickly change out of your pajamas. You look like a mess un-showered and red puffy eyes from crying so much.
Turning the knob you open the front door slowly when your heart skips a beat at the glimpse of platinum blond hair.
Riker looks at you with golden hazel eyes that are filled with regret. Right away he begins to apologize.
“I am so incredibly sorry. I didn’t mean anything I said last night. I was just-“ You cut him off a few tears collecting in the corners of your eyes.
“No it’s not your fault I started the fight and said some really mean things that I don’t expect you to forgive me for. I was just angry and hurt and not thinking.” All of a sudden two warm arms capture you in a big bear hug. Surprised but loving the warmth you hug him back squeezing him tightly.
Riker releases sheepishly smiling at you. “I take some of the blame for this fight. Don’t beat yourself up it wasn’t just you, we both were at fault. I never want to fight like this again. Okay? It hurts me to see you upset.”
“I agree. We can work out our differences more civilized than yelling a cutting each other down. Now come here.” You smile and giggle as you wrap Riker in another embracing hug.
He gently whispers in your ear softly, “I love you so much.”
The tears you were holding back silently and slowly fall not out of hurt or anger, but out of joy. “I love you too Riker.” The two of you stand there in each other’s arms only halfway through the door never wanting to let go.
