You drive your boyfriend Riker home in silence besides the faint radio playing as background noise. You’d spent the day just hanging out with him and now it was dark and time to bring the day to a close. Never liking the quiet Riker starts up a conversation.
“So what are you doing for the rest of the weekend?”
“Eh not much, probably going to finally get around to organizing my closet. It’s horrible; you can barely see the floor.”
“I hear ya, I think Rocky and I’s room is starting to grow mold.”
You laugh at his last statement. “Oh hey did you know that my little sister is at her senior prom right now?”
“Fun! Was she excited?
“Oh yeah definitely, she looks so beautiful and grown up in her dress.”
“Yes, she is very pretty just like her sister.” You can tell by his voice that he’s smiling at you, but you obviously don’t see because well you’re driving, duh.
“She’s really looking forward to the perfect slow dance with her date. I remember my dance, it was sweet I guess. The guy was nice but had two left feet.”
“Being homeschooled I never had a senior prom and a slow dance. Sure I dance all the time so it’s not the dancing part missed but I guess it’s more symbolic.” You can hint a subtle longing and disappointment in his voice.
Not saying another word you pull into the deserted park parking lot, which you were conveniently passing by. “Well I think were just going to have to fix your no prom dance problem.” When you put the car in park you keep the headlights on and crank up the music that is playing a good slow dancing song. You hop out of the car and walk around to the passenger side opening the door and holding out a hand. “May I have this dance?”
“You are so weird.” Riker chuckles but accepts your offer anyways.
You lead him by the hand in front of the headlights giggling slightly as the two of you get in position.
Being a great dancer he knows what to do. He places his hands on your hips as you drape yours around his neck loosely. He takes the lead swaying back and forth moving to the music. Both of you move together perfectly like you’ve danced your whole life. Riker smiles at you golden hazel eyes locked with yours. These were the best moments, the ones that were completely random and sweet. They made your heart melt.
As the dance continues you move in closer to him resting your head on his warm chest. You feel vibrating against your ear as he hums along with the song.
Being consumed by the moment neither of you realize the rumbling sky above until you feel a light rain drop splash on your nose. Looking up you see dark heavy rain clouds starting to release the small droplets that are pulled down to you by gravity.
Most people would quickly dash for the car to take cover from the rain, but you and Riker remain outside still dancing until the song ends like everything is normal.
It’s now a downpour, but the two of you soaked with hair sticking to your foreheads still hold each other closely.
You mumble into his drenched shirt, “You’re incredible, I love you more than you will ever know.” Small tears mix with the rainwater as you take a deep shaky breath.
A wet hand raises your chin up so your eyes meet with Riker’s through the showering rain. “Never forget that I love you too. You are amazing and breath-taking beautiful.” With that he leans down guiding your dripping face towards his. Your heart speeds up and your eyes slide close as you anticipate his soft lips that you have learned the taste of so well. They connect with yours softly yet firmly, both your lips molding together perfectly moving slowly keeping a steady pace.
The kiss isn’t heated nor is it soft and sweet, it’s simple but beautiful. Like a kiss at the end of a romantic movie when the two main characters finally realize their love for one another. You just stand there in the cold rain kissing your boyfriend while his arms remain around you one hand settling at your hip while the other is cupping your cheek pulling you closer.
Finally breaking away both smile and rest forehead against the others.
Riker is the first to speak, “I should really get you home before you catch a cold.”
Smiling you respond, “I don’t want to go home if it means being apart from you.” You look up at him as if you’re five years old again.
“I promise I’ll visit you tomorrow. Maybe we can organize your closet together.” His eyes are honest and you nod your head in agreement.
“Okay then, I guess I can wait until tomorrow.”
“That’s my girl.” Riker leans down and kisses you again pulling away quicker this time. He takes you by the wrist and leads you to the car stepping carefully trying not to slip on the wet ground. You follow him smiling uncontrollably. Sure your car is now going to be soaked, but it was worth it.
