“So he likes it when you sing to him, but not too loud.  In about an hour he’ll get really hungry and fussy.  So I have some bottles prepared in the fridge; just stick them in the microwave for a little while.  But not too hot! Diapers are over there. If he gets cold there’s blankets and ther-“

“Honey, calm down.  We’re only going to be gone for a few hours.”  Your husband Riker rubs your back attempting to lead you out the door.

It’s your first evening together without the baby, harder than one might think.  It’s not that you don’t trust the babysitter; she’s family, only the best, but you just can’t let your little baby go.

“We have to go now.  We’re going to miss are reservation.”  Riker puffs.  You can read the impatience growing on his face, coat already on trying to hand you yours.

“Just let me say goodbye.”  You walk over to the bundle in your sister-in-laws arms.

“Alright, fine.”  He sighs, “A fifth time wouldn’t hurt.” He mumbles more to himself this time.  Catching Riker’s words you turn back glaring at him.  He shrugs innocently stepping back slightly.

Looking down at your son, first and only child, you sigh, “Maybe we shouldn’t go.  Look, he’s missing me already.”

“He’s asleep.” Riker sputtered nonchalantly.

“Whatever.  Just when you put him to bed make sure he has his favorite monkey and light blue blanket.  The one with the dancing sheep around the edges.” Riker finally resorts to dragging you through the door.  “Not the navy, the light blue.” The door closes in your face.

Taking you by the hand your husband leads you to the car opening the passenger side door for you.  “It’s going to be okay.  Rydel can handle it, plus you know she loves babies.  Please just try to relax.”

Taking a seat in the cold car you just roll your eyes at him.  Why is he always right?

~~~~~~
“Refill for you ma’am?”
“Yes please, thank you.” The waiter refills your glass and removes a few empty plates.
“This was nice.” You turn gazing at your blond husband.  “Thanks for dragging me out of there.  Sorry I went a bit crazy.”
He simply laughs.  “It’s alright, I understand it’s hard to leave him for the first time.” He leans closer to you almost whispering.  “I already know you get a bit crazy.”  Shoving him you can’t help but smile at his wide grin.
“Ready?” You ask rubbing his leg caringly.
“Whenever you are.”  Once you’ve paid Riker leads you to the car again driving to the movie theater.  After buying tickets and finding a seat towards the back you settle again pushing the armrest up to cuddle into your husband’s side.
The movie starts and for about 45 minutes you’re fine.  Then a scene with a little baby appears.  You whisper trying not to disturb anyone, “Riker, isn’t that baby so cute?”
“Mmhm.”
“Reminds me of ours… I wonder how he’s doing?  Do you think he’s okay?”
“Yes, he’s in perfect hands.  Now don’t worry about it okay?  You’re supposed to relax, remember?”  Riker rubs your shoulders.
“I know, we should check on him.”  Your volumes a little louder accidently, random strangers giving you some nasty looks.  You start to stand up before being pulled down.
“We can’t leave in the middle of the movie.”
“Sure we can, come on.”  Riker simply rolls his eyes following you out the door.
~~~~~~

You hastily open the front door revealing Rydel calmly sitting on the couch with a magazine.  “You guys are home early.  How was the movie?”

“Fine, fine.  Where’s my baby?”

“Umm, okay.  He’s been sleeping for about a good hour.  What’s wrong?”  She turns to Riker for answers.

“Separation anxiety.”  He whispers giving her a frustrated look.

She forms an “O” shape with her lips knowing how you can get.  You go to the baby’s room peering at his sleeping body in the crib.  Everything was fine.

“We almost made it.”  Riker sighs to his sister.  She just laughs.

“Honestly she lasted longer than I thought.”

You return from the bedroom the pair of blondies giving you “the look.”  “What?  Their only babies once you know.”
