Errand boy

Part 7

Foncey informed all the kids that Dec had woken up briefly but was now asleep again and it was time for them to go home!

He took Dermott to one side for a moment,

"Son,Dec is asking for Ant,maybe you could ask him if he'll come and visit?"

"Of course I will Dad" Dermott smiled "I'll bring him with me tomorrow if he's up to it"

Foncey returned to Decs room and a couple of hours later,Dec woke again,this time being much more alert!

Foncey smiled at him,

"How are you feeling son?"

"My wrists hurt and so does my stomach" Dec complained,

"They will for a while son" Foncey affectionately answered "you did yourself some real damage,but you're on the mend now and the doctor says you're going to be just fine"

"I want to die" Dec whispered sadly,

"Dec no," Foncey replied "please don't say that,we thought we'd lost you,finding you on the bathroom floor like that,that was the worst moment of my life,i'm so sorry I made you feel like that was the only way out,I was wrong,I was so wrong and I hope that one day you'll be able to find it in your heart to forgive me?I love you Dec,I really do" he gently stroked his sons hair,

"You said I disgust you" Dec stated bluntly,Foncey looked down at the floor,totally ashamed of his treatment of his youngest child,

"You hate me" Dec continued,tears now streaming down his face,

"No Decky no" Foncey whispered,his own tears now flowing freely,
"I don't hate you,I never could,it was a knee jerk reaction that I will regret for the rest of my life,I love you so much more than you could ever imagine,you're my boy,my sweet,kind,lovable,adorable,special boy and I'm so proud to be your father"

"I still want to die" Dec cried,

"Baby,why?" Anne sobbed "you'd want to break the hearts of all of us who love you?why?"

"Like you have broke mine and Ants hearts" he wept "if I can't be with him then what is the point in me still living?I love him and I need him"

"Decky" Foncey gently smiled "Ant is coming to see you tomorrow,Dermott is bringing him"

Decs face lit up "really?"

"Yes,really!everything is going to be ok"

The next day Dermott arrived with Ant who had phoned in sick at work,he just couldn't cope with it after the events of the weekend!It had taken a while for Dermott to persuade Ant that Anne and Foncey actually wanted him there,eventually he agreed as his yearning to see Dec was stronger than anything else!

Ant sheepishly entered the private room that Dec had been moved to.His heart leapt at the sight of him so small in his hospital bed.Ant looked at Anne and Foncey nervously,

"Come in" Anne smiled
"Decky baby,you've got a visitor"

Ant sat down on the edge of the bed as Decs eyes fluttered open and lit up at the sight of him,

"Ant,you came?" Dec smiled,

"Of course I came" Ant replied "Oh baby,I've been so worried about you,why did you do this?"

"I'm sorry" Dec whispered "I just didn't want to live without you,I can't,I love you too much"

"I love you too baby,so so much" Ant gently held onto Decs hand and pecked his lips,both of them oblivious to Anne,Foncey and Dermotts presence for a few moments!
