Chapter 20 - Running

Sofia found herself running down a road towards the cliffs behind the house. If she made it to the cliffs, she could get some help or, at least, hide from Will long enough for him to give up. The only problem was that the road she was running down was called 'One Mile Lane' and Sofia was pretty sure that it meant that the road was actually a mile long.

Sofia wasn't very good with maths, so she had no idea how many metres a mile was. But looking at the road, she knew that it must be ALOT of metres.

Her feet were already aching and she had barely even made it a hundred metres yet. Sofia used to be in the little athletics and was the best, fastest runner and now she felt as if she was the slowest runner in the whole universe. But she seemed to be fast enough to get away from Will; he wasn't even trying to run after her, he was just on the phone talking to someone.

Sofia kept running and didn't stop or look back anymore. She had to get out of there as fast as she could.

Luke could tell that the driver was scared of him. They kept glancing at him like he would pull out a gun or a knife at any second. Luke really did not care if they thought he was a lunatic or an escaped prisoner.

Well, maybe he cared a little, but finding Sofia was his main priority right now.

The girl driving couldn't be older than seventeen and she was on her red P's. The poor girl probably only got them recently and now she has to deal with a creepy guy in her car.

It felt like a lifetime before Luke finally spoke up.

"I'm Luke, by the way." Luke looked at the girl and smiled. She looked startled, but she gave him a small smile in return.

"I'm Cecily." Her voice was quiet, Luke could barely hear her over Taylor Swifts new song, 'Shake it off', which was on repeat.

"Hello Cecily. I'm sorry for jumping into your car and forcing you to take me to the cliffs." Luke laughed and Cecily's smile widened.

Luke went to say something but he saw something out of the corner of his eye.

It was a girl in a wedding dress, trying to climb up a five metre gate. He grabbed the wheel off Cecily and swerved the car off the road.

"What do you think you're doing?!" She yelled in protest, but Luke just got out of the car and ran towards Sofia. The girl stared at him in disbelief but Luke didn't pay her any attention.

Luke ran as fast as he could towards the gate calling out to Sofia. She had given up climbing and was lying against the fence, defeated. Luke was yelling her name but she didn't seem to hear him.

"SOFIA!!!!" That time, she turned and saw Luke running towards her and got back up. She started calling out to him but Luke couldn't hear her through the blood pumping in his ears.

Luke hit the gate at full speed and reached through the bars. He cupped Sofia's face in his hands and saw tears in her eyes.

"Sofia. Are you alright? Did he hurt you? Can you -" Luke was cut off by Sofia's lips crashing onto his. It was deep and passionate. Luke didn't want it to end, but Sofia pulled away. He kept his eyes closed for a second to savour the moment.

"Luke!" Sofia cried out. Luke's eyes flew open to see Sofia being dragged away by a buff guy in a security guard outfit.

"Sofia!" Luke shook the gates but the wouldn't budge. "Sofia no! Please!"

The security guard pushed Sofia into a black limousine and was driven off. Luke started to climb, but strong hands yanked him down and hit his head.

The last thing he saw before blacking out was the limo driving Sofia back down the driveway.
