12. Reality Is
THE NEXT MORNING, JULY MAISLEY DIDN'T WANT TO GET OUT OF BED, SHE CLAIMED TO BE BOTHERED BY A GREAT FEVER. Alexandra felt her burning forehead and assured her that she did not need to go to school as she would report to Mr. Sagan, her department head, and, if needed, Headmaster DiCardio that she was out because of a severe fever. July, at first, wasn't willing to let go of a school day, and stay in bed all day. That thought terrified her. Just imagine all the new things they'll learn and how far ahead they'll be... July felt a terrible aching in her stomach, but she had no choice, since she was really to the point where she felt her surroundings a little blurred, and her body just wasn't catching up.
It was terrible, a sign of weakness.
Alexandra walked into the literature department, where thousands of papers roamed the walls. There was all types of classes going on right now. Philosophy, psychology, war stratagem, Arga History, (which used to be a must take class), Architecture, Computer Learning, etc was happening all at the same time. It was very different from Sword Arts, where all everyone did was learn to use the sword, understand the sword, connect with the sword, apply the sword, and learn some war stratagem, philosophy, and Arga History, which were the only three required classes for Sword Art students. Well, to be fair, Literature is a pretty broad subject area. But sword arts was real deal.
Alexandra wandered past two grandeur halls and finally arrived in front of a square wooden door. knocked gently on the door of Mr. Sagan, who opened his door after the third knock. He was a pleasant elder men who wore thick navy blue robe with a formal tie around it. He gave a friendly smile that will immediately put you off guards. "Hi, Mr. Sagan. I'm here to tell you that July Maisley will not be present today. She has a terrible fever, and has to rest." Mr. Sagan was flipping through a worn book that looked centuries old. Faint golden letters printed on the front was barely legible. Alexandra casually lingers her hands around the small pile of books she stood next to. She picked up the first book on the pile. The Demon's Ring by Lord Valse. She looked at the second book, A Brief History Of Time, by Stephen Hawking. She had heard of these books before, only faintly.
"Have you read any of them before. They're really nice. Legends." Alexandra shakes her head.
"No. But they do seem interesting." Mr. Sagan nods enthusiastically.
"Yea, you can take them if you like." Alexandra pauses.
"Is that ok?"
"Of course. Take it, take it." He made a waving gesture with his hands as he walked into a thick pile of paper. He looked into the pile and took out a file. July Maisley was printed in bright black ink. Alexandra feels herself tighten a little."Mr... Sagan?"
"Hm?" His head tilts up from the tall pile that hid his entire figure.
"Is July getting in trouble?""No, no, no. Of course not." But Alexandra couldn't tell the genuineness of his response. She turns around to walk out of his office.
"Wait!" Mr. Sagan's head perks up higher this time, such that Alexandra could see his creamy eyes. Alexandra tilts her head. "Take the books with you. They're really awesome, I promise." Alexandra didn't know what to do. "C'mon, Gallagher, you won't regret it."
Alexandra took the two books and walked out the room, without looking back. She didn't remember telling him her name. Wow, very creepy teacher. Or maybe, a very interesting one.
