A Town of Ashes

Adam thought that his brother kinda had a lucky escape from it all,days after his funeral things started going downhill quickly.The plague that wiped out most people came from a painkiller called 'Extra Numb'. It was released to pharmacies across the globe at a low price. The drug was only tested on animals but animals were immune. When a human took the drug things were different, they would soon get a relentless hunger and get really thirsty this would last 3 minutes after that their blood vessels pop and they spit blood for a minute, during that period their eyes turn into the back of their head and their saliva turns blue. Then the transformation is complete, they are now hungry and aggressive.

The authorities weren't much help though. After the infection broke out they made a vaccine that supposedly makes you immune but they didn't test it for long term affect. They then told everyone to head to their nearest hospital, pharmacy and police station to get their vaccination. The vaccine just make the process slower but still made people turn. By then only a quarter of the military didn't get the vaccine and they were left to defend people against the infected. Soon enough the infected got nick named 'sinners' and 'mutants' but by then the army was on their knees and were near extinction so they left the cities and towns and tried to survive somewhere else.

Adam slowed down the car it was weird looking at the town he grew up in being all smashed up and looted or burnt to the ground. He pulled up in an alley and got out with his hockey stick firm to his chest incase of an attack. He walked out into the street and ducked behind a car he then peaked over the side to see there was five sinners walking down the street in the direction Adam was. Adam gulped his throat and started sweating. He never faced one of them head on before he just ran away like how he solved all his problems in life. He looked around and saw three of them walking out a store.
He turned to go back to his car but there was a mutant right behind him. It pounced on him , Adam lifted up his hockey stick and used it as a barrier between him and the mutant but Adam couldn't hold the stick in position and was getting weaker by the second. Adam started screaming, "HELP!!! HELP ME ANYONE PLEASE"!!! The sound of his scream was only drawing more sinners towards him and he had no more energy left to hold back the sinner.

Then there was a loud bang and the sinners head fell onto Adam's shoulder. At first Adam thought he was bit but then he realized someone shot it. He pushed the sinner away and got up. Then a young guy came running out of the launderette with a pump action shotgun and a stuffed duffel bag around his shoulder. "Quick over here, I've got a car!" Shouted Adam. The man shot another sinner square in the forehead and continued to follow Adam.

Adam got in the car and put the key in the ignition hoping to drive away before the man got into the car. He put the car in gear and was about to floor the accelerator but the guy go inside the car."FUCKING GO MAN!!!" He yelled. Adam floored the car and took a sharp turn around the corner.

He drove down the road head on into a horde of mutants. Adam slammed on the brakes. The man in the passenger seat was slammed forward and hit his arm of the dashboard. He clutched his arm in agony. Adam tried to put the car into reverse but the stick got jammed. The man in the passenger seat got out of the car and yelled "Come on, these things aren't gonna get winded but we are!" He then took off running down the road. Adam opened his door and ran after him. Adam ran up the road and saw the guy in an alley so he followed him down it. By now there was 10 sinner chasing after him. The man then quickly unlocked a door in the alley and ran through so Adam followed him in.
Adam stopped and caught his breath when suddenly the door behind him slammed shut and he felt the end of a gun barrel against his head.

"Listen carefully, if you make any wrong moves I will fill your brain with fucking lead do you understand!" The man shouted. "I understand" Adam sighed. "Good, what's your name then?" Adam whispered "My names Adam". "Alright Adam my names Georgie" said Georgie. "Here take this". Georgie then gave a handgun to Adam. "It has 30 rounds, so use it wisely alright." Adam looked at the gun but was kinda embarrassed because he didn't know how to shoot it.
Georgie walked over to a table in the corner and started rooting through his duffel bag. Adam then got a good glimpse of him. He was only around five foot tall and had brown scruffy hair. He wore thick glasses and was wearing a Puma sweatshirt with denim jeans.

"Here take this, it's a butchers knife" Georgie told him reassuringly. Adam took the knife and put it in his pocket. "Aren't you gonna search me for weapons or something?" Georgie looked at Adam weirdly. "I just saved you from a group of those freaks and gave you a gun but now you want me to search you?" "Well I easily could've killed you by now since you gave me a gun" remarked Adam. "Listen Adam you aren't even fucking holding it right and you didn't but the ammo clip in either, you're as defenseless as a turkey on Christmas eve!"

Adam looked at the gun. He didn't know anything about shooting guns. "Give it here" Georgie took the gun and showed Adam how to put the ammo clip in. "Alright, you see this little switch well just flick when you're about to shoot and the trigger is to shoot okay?"Georgie asked. "Alright" Adam assured him. Adam looked around the building they were inside. It was a pizzeria and they were in the kitchen out back. There was a sleeping bag in the corner and a small mini fridge next to it with a crate of beer on top of it.
"So what supplies have you gathered together then? asked Georgie. Adam continued to scan the room. "Emm not a lot, I only have three slices of bread left" Adam responded. Georgie took a map out of his bag and showed it to Adam. "Mark x on any of the building you looted." Adam looked at the map. It had every store in his area written down saying what resources are in there and how many potential mutants could be in there.
"I looted these apartments over here, because I live in one of them." Georgie got out a marker and crossed the apartment off the map. "Were there many sinners in there?" Asked Georgie. "I don't know, I didn't go near any apartments with sinners inside. "Georgie laughed to himself and whispered "pussy!" Georgie then drew a big circle around the 'Go Save' supermarket that Adam was planning on looting. "That's the gold mine, right there if we get in there were set I'm talking drink,food and tobacco!" Georgie practically shouted it.
Then the room began to shake violently, it threw Adam and Georgie to the floor and parts of the ceiling fell threw. Adam felt dazed and light headed. He could see the lights on the ceiling came down on top of his leg. He left out a small gasp in agony. He looked over and saw that Georgie was trying to get back up but Adam didn't have the energy to respond and then he blacked out.
