"Stay together! Hurry now! Arm yourselves!" Gandalf commanded. The Dwarves did as he said, running around to prepare for a fight, but I remained where I was, looking at the sword he had just given me. It wasn't glowing blue, so whatever was coming couldn't be an Orc or Goblin. Running over to where the Dwarves had grouped, I too armed myself.
There was a sound like dozens of branches snapping and a voice yelled out, "Thieves! Fire! Murder!" A man had come through the trees on a sled being pulled by rabbits. The man had brown hair that was going gray and bird poop on the side of his face.
"Radagast. It's Radagast the Brown," Gandalf explained, chuckling slightly. I recognized the name, but I couldn't remember where from. He put his sword away and walked over to the man, "What on earth are you doing here?"
"I was looking for you, Gandalf," the man said hurriedly. "Something's wrong. Something's terribly wrong." The man went to explain, but couldn't seem to remember. He stood there opening and closing his mouth while we all watched in confusion. "Just give me a minute. Oh, I had a thought and now I've lost it. It was right there on the tip of my tongue. Oh, it's not a thought at all. It's a silly old," he stuck his tongue out and Gandalf reached up toward it, "stick insect." Gandalf dropped the bug onto the man's hand before turning and lighting his pipe. The other Dwarves turned away, ignoring the strange man who I now remembered to be another Wizard Gandalf had told me about. I, on the other hand, wanted to listen in. "The Greenwood is sick, Gandalf. A darkness has fallen over it. Nothing grows anymore. At least, nothing good. The air is foul with decay. But worse are the webs."
"Webs? What do you mean?" Gandalf asked, turning halfway.
"Spiders, Gandalf. Giant ones. Some kind of spawn of Ungoliant, or I am not a Wizard. I followed their trail. They came from Dol Guldur." My eyes widened upon hearing that name.
"Dol Guldur? But the old fortress is abandoned."
"No, Gandalf. 'Tis not. A dark power dwells there such as I have never felt before. It is the shadow of an ancient horror. One that can summon the spirits of the dead. I saw him, Gandalf. From out of the darkness a Necromancer has come." Radagast gasped, caught up in his own memory. "Sorry."
"Try a little Old Toby. It'll help settle your nerves," Gandalf suggested, handing his pipe to Radagast. I didn't get to hear the rest of the conversation between the two Wizards because two voices spoke right next to my ear, scaring me.
"What are you doing?" I heard Kili say.
"You really like eavesdropping, don't you?" Fili asked at the same time. I hit them both on the shoulder for scaring me.
"I'm not eavesdropping, I'm simply listening in from afar," I offered, speaking slowly.
"That's called eavesdropping. You're dropping eaves," Kili smirked.
"Am not. I'm just a curious She-Elf, that's all." A howl filled the air and I instantly perked up. "That is not a wolf. Nor is it from any of my people." There was a growl and we looked over to see a Warg coming up behind Bofur and Gloin. Thorin quickly struck down the beast, killing it. Another Warg ran up behind Thorin, but Kili drew an arrow, shooting it before Dwalin stuck an axe in its skull.
"Warg scouts. Which means an Orc pack is not far behind," Thorin informed us all.
"Who did you tell about your quest beyond your kin?" Questioned Gandalf.
"No one."
"Who did you tell?" Gandalf yelled.
"No one, I swear. What in Durin's name is going on?"
"You are being hunted."
"We have to get out of here," Dwalin muttered.
"We can't. We have no ponies. They bolted," Ori said as another howl rang out.
"I'll draw them off," Radagast declared firmly.
"These are Gundabad Wargs. They will outrun you."
"These are Rhosgobel Rabbits. I'd like to see them try." Radagast led the Orc pack in the opposite direction, giving us the opportunity to make a run for it. Gandalf watched to make sure the coast was clear before guiding us out from behind a boulder. We ran, avoiding the Orcs until they passed right in front of us, making us freeze in our tracks.
