( chapter four )MADELEINE SLYLY MADE her way into the classroom. blane had shared a few too many pecks on the lips and had caused the girl to be late to her first class. seated at the front of the class, she had remembered that homework was due today. she cursed to herself, shyly pushing the packets of homework down her row. "miss buckingham, no homework? again?" her professor asked, making his was over to the center of the classroom. it was like he always had an extra eye on madeleine. it made her grow irritable very quickly, but as always she kept her feelings bottled. "i'll be able to turn it in after school, if that's fine?" she mumbled, the class beginning to whisper things about her, under their breath. "see me after class, buckingham." he restated, causing the girl to drown in disappointment.
the class had continued as always, madeleine confusedly flipping through her organized notes. she had spent the entire hour trying to comprehend the equations in front of her and how to solve them. finally the bell rang, but madeleine was dreading the encounter that was moments from happening. packing her things up, she made her way towards the teachers desk. "i'm thinking of getting you a tutor, madeleine." mr. collins began, sitting on the front of his desk, crossing his arms over his chest. "sir, that's not necessary, i promise. give me a few more days, i'll learn the material in no time." she replied, sitting in the desk nearest to his. "midterms are coming and i can't risk you bringing down the entire class gpa." mr. collins confessed, pointing to the calendar that marked the date of midterms.
"i simply cannot balance my honor classes, extracurriculars, and tutoring mr. collins" the girl groaned, pulling out the small bullet journal she carried everywhere she went. "well if you can't do the tutoring, you'll flunk this class. madeleine, you're a junior in high-school. you cannot have this on your transcript." mr collins reminded the girl, passing over the paper of her unweighted d minus in the class. "i guess i'll have to find a way, have you decided who will be tutoring me?" she asked, folding the unsatisfying grade into her pocket before returning her attention to her teacher. "his grade in this class is remarkable, i think you might actually be friends with him, reece. reece bibby." mr collins recited, giving her the confirmation note that addressed what time to meet him.
"you're kidding right, mr. collins? he hates my guts. he would never agree to be my tutor." she laughed nervously as she pulled her hair behind her ear. "he doesn't do much extracurriculars and it'd look great on his transcript, so he agreed. now get to your next class, buckingham." he finished, walking the girl over to the door and letting her out. the girl thanked him, even though she knew that it would be a complete and utter nightmare.
