( chapter five )WALKING OUT OF the high school, madeleine looked around for reece. "where does he wait? i hope he doesn't find a way to publicly humiliate me, like always." madeleine whispered to her friends as they helped look for him as well. "i gotta get home before violin practice, talk to you later buttercup." delilah's smile was small, she could tell the blonde was nervous, but she promised her no big deal. as she left, elowen did as well. blane didn't care about the the girl's new plans and said his goodbyes after the bell had rang.
madeleine finally met eyes with reece's oversized jumper and shyly walked his way. "reece, i'm madeleine from calculus. mr collins said you'd be tutoring me after school today-" she recited but cut herself off as she noticed his pure confusion. "tutor you? he didn't tell me i was tutoring you." his voice was fueled with disgust, causing madeleine to grow small in her figure. "i-i, he told me you did. he even gave me the note an-and everything." madeleine showed the boy the evidence as she pulled out the small slip from her pocket, his phone number attatched and her very prominent d minus. "well i can't tutor you, i don't want to." he responded, beginning to walk away from the girl. she followed along, being confused as to why not. "why can't you just deal with the answer; no. are you not used to rejection, blossom?" he asked, finally stopping as he turned and looked at the girl. "fine." she huffed, walking away from the boy finally, she had given up. she would flunk the class and her future would be downhill from here, all because of reece bibby.
by the time she was done talking-well arguing with reece, the entire parking lot was empty and she was in need of a ride. she tried to phone blane, but the call went straight to voice mail. she quickly dialed elliot, him answering in a few moments. he told her to wait there and he'd get there in ten minutes. getting into the car, she rubbed her cold hands together as elliot turned down the music. "what happened?" he asked his worried eyes shifted to meet her gaze. she explained to him the situation, him then saying, "is your grade that bad? let me see." she handed him the same small note, the same d minus made his eyes widen. "i know it's bad, it brings my gpa almost all the way down a number." she frustratedly groaned, wiping her hand over her face. "let me handle it, i promise i can resolve the situation in no time." elliot stated, his eyebrows curving into a mysterious look. "don't el, i don't want you to give him another reason to hate me. i'll figure out the grade situation on my own. i promise." she responded, pulling out her phone from her pocket, texting her friends.
she didn't realize that elliot had kept the slip of paper, placing it in his pocket before she could notice. when they arrived home, elliot made excuses that he needed to get something out of his car and for her not to wait up. she didn't think much of it, getting out of the car and quickly into her home. elliot on the other hand, pulled the slip of paper out and began dialing the digits that confirmed reece's number.
"who's this?"
"hey man, it's elliot buckingham"
"how'd you get my- what do you want"
"no need for the tone, i'm calling about my sister"
"for the last time, i'm not tutoring her. there's no way you could convince me too"
"why can't you do it dude? what's your problem?"
"i'm not going to tutor some prep, on basic math. make somebody else do it"
"what-what if i payed you? a weekly income for however much you want."
"i don't want your money"
"you don't want it, but you need it, don't you? it's up to you man. text me"
and with that the conversation was over. elliot hung up the phone immediately, and walked inside. reece on the other hand contemplated the situation all night. in all honesty, he could really use the money. it would take off a ton of weight from his shoulders. maybe if he asked for the right allowance he could pay off the bills on time. he would be able to buy his little sister some new clothes, maybe new school materials as well. but was he really about to his set his pride aside for this. he was managing on his own, him and his small family. he didn't need the money, but damn would life be a little bit more easier.
