On Wednesday, Yamaguchi had ended up bumping into Yachi on the way to school, and they immediately got onto the topic of the subjects they excelled in versus the ones they weren't so good in, with the agreement to try and help each other. Tsukishima already had his headphones on, so didn't take part in the conversation.
"I'm ok at maths, but that's only because Tsukki taught me most of the hard stuff."
If he had heard, Tsukishima chose not to respond to hearing his name, but Yachi looked a little confused,
"Tsukki...?"
"Oh, I never introduced you. This is my friend, Tsukishima Kei. I call him Tsukki."
"Oh, I see! Nice to meet you Tsukishima!"
She smiled in Tsukishima's direction, but he only blinked at her, and carried on walking without saying anything. Yachi was in a different class to them, so they ended up going different directions. Yamaguchi tapped Tsukishima,
"Hey, Tsukki, did you get much sleep last night?"
"Ah..I stayed up watching a documentary. So not really."
That explains why he was so quiet this morning. Well. More than usual.
"Oh, that's cool! Though if your missing out on sleep maybe not so cool..? Well I guess it depends on the documentary.."
He carried on rambling without really realising, but Tsukishima didn't seem to mind very much. After a while, the teacher walked in, and they all sat down.

Yachi: you still ok for tonight?
Yamaguchi: I'm so so sorry just found I have volleyball club, completely forgot :(
Yachi: that's ok! Just lemme know when your free
Yamaguchi sighed, putting his phone into his bag and quickly getting changed. The volleyball club supervisor had managed to get them a practice match with Seijou, a school nearby, and they were deciding who would be on the starting team.
I really hope I get to play..!
He walked into the gym, and sat next to Tsukishima. Once everyone showed up, Daichi, with the help of Sugawara, decided who would be on the team for the practice match, although Seijou had requested that Kageyama play as the setter for the whole game. They'd chosen 4 people so far, not counting Kageyama - Hinata, Daichi, Tanaka and Tsukishima. That left one more spot - whatever he had to do, he'd do it - recieve, spike, serve, anything-
"And we'll have Ennoshita as a wing spiker."
I'm...the only first year who isn't playing?
Tsukishima didn't seem to care that he'd even got a spot in the lineup, Hinata was essentially the package deal that came with Kageyama, Daichi was the captain, so it made sense for him to be there, but surely, it was unfair that Yamaguchi was the only first year who didn't get to play. The meeting finished up, and everyone started to head home. As important as Yamaguchi might've been during the 3v3, it seemed he was irrelevant now. Tsukishima waited for him at the door, and they both walked to the school gate, only to be interrupted by Yachi running upto them.
"Hi! I was just leaving, and I noticed you, is it ok if I walk home with you guys?"
Yamaguchi decided to suppress his feelings about not getting in the starting lineup, and smiled back at her,
"Sure! Sorry I couldn't come earlier, but your welcome to come round mine for a bit if you want?"
Her whole face went red, and she flapped her hands as she spoke,
"W-well-at yours-? Alone? T-that's kinda..haha.."
He realised what it sounded like he'd said, and quickly attempted to correct himself,
"N-not like that! Tsukki can come t-too, um, my parents are there-I swear I didn't mean it in a bad way,"
His words were rushed and he couldn't help but notice Tsukishima laugh slightly at how flustered he was, but agreed to come round also. They managed to get quite a lot of work done, Yachi was best at English, Tsukishima was pretty good at everything, and Yamaguchi was terrible at maths, but ok at most of the other subjects. They shared sweets between themselves, and Tsukishima, for once, didn't put his headphones on and let his music play out loud. The peacefulness of the whole situation almost made Yamaguchi forget how upset he was previously.
Almost.
Yachi left before Tsukishima, letting Yamaguchi walk her part the way home so that she wouldn't get lost. Yamaguchi got in and almost tripped over Tsukishima, who was putting his shoes on.
"Ah, sorry Tsukki!"
"Don't worry about it. See you tomorrow."
He walked out, and Yamaguchi considered trying to improve his receives before tomorrow, maybe they'd have to swap out one of the players and he'd get to play. So he threw on a jacket, grabbed his volleyball and walked outside into the cold air.
I've got to get better if I want to play on the team...if I want to play, I've got to prove I'm better than I was in the 3v3.
He didn't realise how late it'd gotten till his arms were red, and the ball had landed somewhere in the bushes. He checked his phone, and found that it was way past 10, the time he'd planned to go to sleep. He found the ball, and ran upstairs, flopped onto his bed and fell asleep instantly.
~~~~~~
Did I really watch Tsukki for the entire match? I don't really remember what anyone else did.
Yamaguchi blinked a few times, trying to recall the events of the practice match. It felt like, even though he hadn't contributed to Karasuno's win, the game had passed by in a blur. All he remembered, was Hinata and Kageyama doing their weird quick, and Tsukishima being aimed at by that stupid pretty boy Oikawa. As he walked out, he found the pretty boy himself: Oikawa standing by the gates.
"Ah, your from Karasuno, right? I didn't see you play though.."
As he spoke, he took another step towards Yamaguchi, offering him a smile.
"I-I'm..Yamaguchi Tadashi.."
For some reason, Yamaguchi couldn't get his words out without stammering, his face flushed as Oikawa got closer.
"You must be a first year! How come you weren't playing?"
"I-um, I just wasn't put on the starting line up..that's all.."
"It's Tadashi, yeah? Do you mind if I call you Tada-Chan?"
"That's kinda friendly to say that we've just-"
"Great! So Tada-Chan, what's your skill?"
"I said n-not to-"
"Serving? Blocking? Spiking?"
With each word, he somehow got even closer to Yamaguchi, until there was barely any space between them, and Oikawa's hand was pressed against the wall behind Yamaguchi's head.
"I-I-um,"
Yamaguchi's voice faltered, and he knew that he was completely red. He heard loud talking, namely, Kageyama and Hinata, and Oikawa moved off of him, handing him a slip of paper which Yamaguchi could only assume was his phone number. None of the rest of the team had seen what'd happened, and even Tsukishima asked why his face was so red, but he couldn't explain why he didn't retell the events that had just occurred.
When he finally got the chance to look at the piece of paper Oikawa had given him, his assumption was correct. It was his phone number.
