Jisoo slid into the driver seat and thought she heard Jennie sigh. Starting the engine, she glanced over at the girl who was stroking the leather of the passenger seat, seemingly lost in thoughts.
Leaning over Jennie's torso, Jisoo pulled the seatbelt across the girl and clicked it into place for her, hearing the girl's breath hitch as their cheeks were brought close together. Jennie had stopped stroking her seat, and Jisoo waited just a moment, admiring the cute blush and avoiding eyes that adorned the very pretty face, before settling back into the driver seat and strapping her own seatbelt on.
Pop music was softly playing through the radio while she drove away from the curb and into the street.
"Penny for your thoughts?" Jisoo ventured.
"Hmm?" Jennie took a second to process, "Oh no, I'll sell them for a dollar."
"But they're worth so much more after you're a goner," Jisoo half-sang.
"Maybe, if I die young from your speeding," Jennie laughed, "It's a good song, by the way." They shared a chuckle before Jisoo glanced over at her passenger and grinned at the sight of Jennie relaxing into a smile.
"I'm so not speeding, you know," Jisoo kept her eyes on the road and patted the wheel, "for a car like this." She smiled and peered over, only to observe Jennie's smile fade slowly with a tense chew on the bottom lip. Worrying, Jisoo slowed down and placed both hands on the wheel, hoping this would ease Jennie somehow.
Jennie fidgeted with her fingers as she looked out the window, "A car like this, indeed. Is it all yours?"
"Well, I paid for half," Jisoo decided to leave out the fact that the other half was hers too, as a gift from her father. Jennie hummed, then sighed so softly Jisoo almost could not catch, "You're a lucky girl."
Intuition told Jisoo that Jennie was likely cautious around the topic of spending, and she added this piece of information to her mental notes on Jennie.
"I sure am, to have you as my date," Jisoo tried an attempt to elicit the gummy smile she was starting to miss, and her heart did a happy dance when she was rewarded with Jennie's splitting grin and rolling eyes.
"Glad you are aware," Jennie chuckled and winked, widening Jisoo's dopey grin to the maximum. If only they were at a red light so Jisoo could turn to face Jennie and spend more time taking in that enchanting smile that just made her heart skip one too many beats.
The rest of the ride was easy and light, with pop music in the background, interspersed with random conversations between Jennie and Jisoo about music tastes and song choices when growing up.
Before long, they had parked and were walking from the large open-air carpark to the entrance of a high-end club as the heart-thumping bass of music grew louder with every step closer.
----------
Jennie tapped her phone. 1115pm.
They were late and they had just joined the queue to get into the club, but Jennie did not mind it one bit. Judging by how long the queue was becoming and how loud the music already was from the outside, she could only imagine the jam-packed crowd and ridiculously deafening situation inside, something she would never get used to. Besides, being outside meant more time with Jisoo alone, and Jennie liked the idea of that.
"When was the last time you went to a club?" Jisoo tilted her head. She was standing shoulder to shoulder with Jennie as they waited in line.
Jennie crossed her arms and looked up at the sky, thinking. "Hmm... July, perhaps? After national dance finals." She beamed smugly and lifted a brow and an index finger, "First place."
