The Hospital

Kat's POV

When I woke up it was still dark outside, I checked the time and saw it was around 3am. I'm not sure why exactly I woke up but I do feel a little scared, maybe I had a nightmare and just don't remember. I looked to my left and saw that Dom was asleep in the chair next to me, and I just now realized that she was holding my hand. I'm so glad she's here, I need her with me so much, she makes me stronger and I feel safer with her by my side. I really wanted to snuggle her but I didn't want to wake her up so I gently pulled the rest of her arm onto the bed with me and snuggled into it. It was so soft and it smelled like Dom. Dom's smell was so comforting that I fell asleep almost instantly.

Dom's POV

The next morning, I woke up to find my arm completely on Kat's hospital bed instead of just my hand. This was because Kat was full-on snuggling my entire arm. It was really cute and I didn't want to disturb her so I stayed still until I eventually fell back asleep.
When I woke up the second time, it was around 2pm. It was raining outside, making the sky darker than one would expect to find at 2pm. It made the world more gloomy, more...lonely. I was glad I had my Kat right next to me. She was still asleep and snuggled into my arm, but this time, before I could decide what to do, a nurse came into the room; which reminded me that Kat and I weren't the only people on earth, despite what it felt like. With the rain, looking at Kat's sleeping face seemed to make time slow down, it was like even if there are other people on earth, she's all that matters. Her. Just her. The nurse spoke to me and snapped me out of my love-dazed state.

Nurse: "Alright I think sleeping till 2pm is enough sleep for one person. I've got to wake her up anyways to check on her mental state and give her some food."

The nurse tapped on Kat's shoulder but Kat didn't respond. She kept tapping and tapping but Kat still wouldn't wake up

Dom: "How about I give it a go?"

Nurse: "Be my guest."

Dom leaned in close to Kat and gently kissed her on the cheek and then the nose and the forehead, basically, all over her face. Still nothing. Then Dom decided to up the anti and talked to Kat while shaking her gently

Dom: "Kat, baby, it's time to wake up. I'm here for you, wake up for me, love."

It could have been what Dom said or just that hearing Dom's voice was enough, but Kat woke up

Kat: *grogily* "Hm? Domi? What is it?"

Dom: "The nurse is here to check on you, you have to wake up."

Kat: *yawns* "Okayyy. What time is it?"

Dom: "2pm"

Kat: "My god it's late!"

Dom: "Yeah but it doesn't matter, it's not like you have anywhere to be, you can rest for as long as you need."

Nurse: "Yes, but I need to wake you up occasionally to make sure you're doing alright and to make sure you eat and drink, it's important to recovery. So I've brought you something to eat, I've been told that you're gluten free and vegan and we don't have much that follows that diet, so here's a cashew salad and some water."

Kat sits up as the nurse wheels over the food tray into place, over Kat's lap, and places the plate of food onto it

Kat: "Thank you."

Nurse: "Just doing my job. I'll get out of your hair now. Tap the red button on your remote if you need anything."

The nurse smiles at Dom and Kat and leaves the room, shutting the door behind her

Dom: "I really want to hug you but I'm thinking it's better to wait until you're done eating."

Kat: "Screw that, come here."

Kat pushes her food tray aside and Dom reaches over to hug Kat, tightly.

Dom: "I'm so glad you're okay, I don't know what I would've done if you weren't."

Kat: "Well I'm really glad you're here with me. I'm not sure I would have made it if you weren't here with me."

Dom: "How so?"

Kat: "You make me stronger."

Dom blushes at Kat's casual comment and genuine smile. In an attempt to seem confident and not a blushing mess,

Dom: "Right back at you then."

As Dom says this, she laughs and playfully punches Kat's arm

Kat: "You're a goddamn dork. You know that?"

Dom: "You love meeee."

Kat: "Yeah you're right, but you love me too."

Dom: "Yeah, who doesn't? You're bloody amazing."

Kat: "Ray doesn't seem to think so."

Dom: "Well his opinion doesn't count. He's a right prick. Speaking of Ray,... did he do this to you?"

Kat is silent for a minute

Kat: "Well...yes and no. He did it, physically, but it's my fault he did it."

Dom: "How on earth is it your fault he did something?"

Kat: "I made him mad...it's my fault he got mad and hurt me. I never should have said what I said."

Dom: "What did you say that made him mad?"

Kat: "I- um. It doesn't matter. I made him mad. It's my fault."

Kat looks away from Dom as she says this and repeats it over and over to herself and she starts to cry softly

Dom: "Hey hey hey, don't cry love, look at me."

Dom takes Kat's face in her hands and wipes her tears and then maintains eye contact with Kat

Dom: "I need you to listen to me. And really listen. It is not your fault. Ray is a prick and he's toxic. You did nothing wrong. He's the problem. Not you. He's manipulating you to make you think it's your fault. That's what abusers like him do. They make you think they're the victim. I promise you, that you did nothing wrong. You don't need to deal with him anymore. I'm here. You're okay, and you're the strongest woman I know and you made it through. I'm proud of you."

Kat: "I don't know what I'd do without you Domi."

Dom smiles at Kat and Kat smiles back. Then, Dom pulls Kat in for a hug and they sit like that for a while.
