"I can't believe you finally woke up." Nathaniel said as he as admired his wife's messy brunette hair. Usually, it was all pulled back creating a very dominant and sophisticated look.
"Did you make me food?" Lila asked Nathaniel. Lila's last case was a difficult one of her friends from college had accused another friend of rape but it was hard to prove since it happened so long ago. Nathaniel had told Lila the truth about the defendant Eric Thompson. He was the stereotypical spoiled frat boy but that's not the reason Nathaniel hated him.
Yesterday evening when Lila arrived home from a tiresome day at court defending Ciarah Hayler, her colleague and college friend.
"So, how's your case?" Nathaniel asked. Lila pulled out a file from her briefcase that she had put on the bar stool. She typically choose not to bring work home but this was a tough case.
"I can't convict Eric unless another person admits to being harassed by... Didn't you and Eric have a fight six years ago?" Lila asked recalling Nathaniel coming home late with a bruised eye.
"You know about that?" Nathaniel gulped. Hoping that day would never be brought up again.
"Of course I do. You never get into fights then you came home with a black eye and claim it was a bar fight when I know you don't like the taste of alcohol."
"Lila, I won't."
"Nathaniel, all you have to do is tell the jury he hit you. This will give the jury proof that Eric has a history of violence. " Lila explained. Eric and Nathaniel used to hang out but after that fight they never talked again. Lila wondered if Nathaniel knew about Eric being a danger to society.
"Want if his counselor asks me want initiated him to hit me?"
"Why did he hit you?" Lila asked now curious on what her husband was hiding.
"Nevermind this was a bad idea." Nathaniel stated trying to back out of agreeing to testify in court.
"This case is back in court in a couple of days. Think about it tell then."
"I will." Nathaniel said as he saw'll the apartment door open and Ezra walked in covered in chalk.
"Did you enjoy recess my little tomato?" Lila asked using a tone a voice similar to a mom talking to a baby.
"Yah! I made SpongeBob and Patrick." Ezra bragged.
Nathaniel smiled he was a proud father and nothing could change that. Sure a professional artist and criminal attorney were an odd pairing like cheese and wine. Yet, they seemed to be good for each other.
Lila couldn't paint but she had a great eye for art. She help Nathaniel improve and he helped her with working out cases. Lila also attended Nathaniel art shows and not only was she a piece of eye candy but she could conceive anyone to by a painting.
"No, but I did get you a pumpkin spice latte." Nathaniel said as he retrieved the latte from the counter to hand to her. Lila took the latte without a second thought. As soon as she took a sip, whip cream got on her nose which Nathaniel thought was cute.
"I picked up some burnt umber oil paint for that portrait I'm working on and while I was at the store I picked up the Copic markers that Ezra has been wanting." Nathaniel explained knowing how she enjoyed it when he talked about his work because being a lawyer can be depressing.
"I think I want another one." Lila stated as she finished her latte.
"I could pick up one after I drop off my Eiffel tower abstract painting," Nathaniel said.
"Not a latte, although that would be nice. I would like another kid. I realize my schedule is packed all the ttime and we need to concentrate on Erza's antisocial behavior." Lila stated as she sat the empty cup on the kitchen bar.
"Another kid? I haven't really thought about another one since all the pregnancy complications you had with Erza." Nathaniel said sounding worried. Lila could have more child its just that Erza was born twelve weeks earlier than expected and the doctors thought for sure that Erza wasn't going to make it.
Lila sighed. She hated to admit it but Nathaniel was right. The likelihood of having another premature baby was extremely high. She had been thinking about having another kid ever since she saw Alya five months pregnant trying to wrangle in her three boys at the Ladybug festival.
"I love you." Nathaniel said not knowing what to say when he just told his wife that he did want another kid.
"I don't want our family to go through that again." Nathaniel tried to comfort her but he knew she was going to hold a grudge for awhile.
