it hadn't felt like a whole seven months since mary had came to new york, but time flies when you're having fun.
she'd successfully made it through her upper east side era with only one feature on gossip girl — and it was for being seen with the infamous chuck bass coat on. but it was cold that day and she was in desperate need of caffeine.
but that era had now come to it's end. cue listening to take that in her room while packing up her things. she had grown to love new york, though it would be nice to get back to quiet streets.
she loved her friends, but god, a break from all the drama would be nice. she didn't mind leaving them for a while. well, except one.
chuck bass was the light in her new york life, and she was completely and utterly in love with him.
he did not know that though. she didn't dare tell him and nor would she anytime soon. yes, he flirted and sent her gifts and cuddled while watching old disney movies that she knew every word to.
but he did not know.
he was the only one who came to the airport with her, no matter how much she told him he didn't need to. she said goodbye to the others at the vanderwoodsen suite after her final breakfast. tears were shed — hopefully none left for chuck's goodbye.
"well, this is it," mary sighed, after leaving her cases off and being left with only a backpack. unfortunately chuck couldn't go any further due to security, so it had came to the moment she had been dreading for the past three weeks.
"i guess it is," chuck looked down at her, evidently sad. his hand reached to caress her hair and mary chuckled as her eyes welled up.
"i promised myself i wouldn't cry," she laughed, her lip quivering. chuck smiled, pulling her into his chest and breathing in the scent of her mango shampoo.
mary choked on a sob, gripping the back of his suit jacket like it was her lifeline. "i'm already late."
chuck huffed out a laugh, kissing the top of her head. "nothing new."
mary wipes under her eyes with her sleeves and laughs with him. her airport attire was not at all attractive. her school leavers hoodie was too big, as were her tracksuit bottoms, and her white converse were dirty and worn out. her hair was pulled into a knot on top of her head and her face was makeup free. yet chuck couldn't help but stare in awe.
"right, i'm gonna go before i start crying again."
she hugs him one last time, kissing his cheek gently before weaving past him and through the door. she waved through the window, rolling her eyes as he cheekily blew her a kiss. throwing up a peace sign, she grinned as he laughed, taking one last look before disappearing through security.
