"we need to stop running into each other like this."
mary looked up from her book and bowl of fruit loops, from where she sat at the high stool kitchen counter, to chuck bass wrapped in a silk robe and satin pyjamas.
"what, at ungodly hours of the morning?" mary laughs. chuck mirrors the actions, eyes shining over with comfort.
"may i?" he nods to the box of cereal and holds up a spare bowl. mary nods and pushes the box and carton of milk to him.
chuck sits opposite her, munching on his own fruit loops. every so often they glance at each other, smiling.
"i know i'm up because of jetlag, but i would've guessed you'd be used to this time zone by now?"
chuck laughs softly, and mary can't help but notice a sadness behind the mischief in his eyes. "new york never sleeps. why should i?"
mary sighs, placing her bowl in the sink. "goodnight chuck."
