Jesse clutched her bleeding shoulder, her blood-stained teeth clenched. Crimson blood spilled and oozed on her piercing hands. Her heavy breaths were deeply labored, her chest painfully heaving in and out in a slow motion. Jesse gasped in anguish, a sudden sharp pain shooting in her side. Jesse staggered slightly, her vision blurring and she felt a pair of arms tenderly wrap around her.

Jesse’s head pounded vigorously and her thumping heart swiftly pounded against her chest. “Jesse...take it easy for a few moments.” Lukas softly said, his azure eyes glimmering with worry.

“Yeah Jesse….we have to wait until-,” Olivia started only to be rudely interrupted by Petra, “By the time Ivor gets back it’ll be too late! We have to keep going!”

Olivia glanced at Petra, jabbing a finger at her, “She needs to rest Petra! I’m afraid were pushing her too hard!”

“Guys….I’m fine,” Jesse croaked, her voice barely a whisper. Both girls gazes sympathetically turned to Jesse. Jesse’s clothes were soaked in blood, her weary eyes half open. “Jesse y-,” Lukas started only for Jesse to wave her hand in dismissal and cut him off, “I said I-I’m fine!” Jesse snapped, her tone harsher even though her voice was barely a whisper.

Jesse coughed up blood, her mouth filled with fresh crimson blood. Jesse spat it out and wiped her mouth with her cold arm. “See your not fine. In fact your far from it,” Olivia commented, turning back to Petra with crossed arms. “See this is why we need her to rest! We can’t keep pushing her like this Petra!” Olivia exclaimed, huffing madly.

Lukas held an injured Jesse close to him, his mind swirling with unhelpful thoughts and his face one of worry. Lukas sighed and Jesse slowly put a hand to her head, feeling really dizzy. The world tilted and swayed underneath her and she felt like she was going to throw up.

As soon as the world stopped swaying, Jesse broke Lukas’ grasp and took a step forward. “Guys. Can we just keep….going?” Jesse asked, growing tired of the bickering that was buzzing in her ringing ears.

Both girls bickering reached its end, both of them weirdly glancing at Jesse. “See! What’d I say!” Petra pointed out, throwing her hands in the air. Jesse took another step forward only for a light tug to pull at her wrist.

Jesse wearily glanced at Lukas, blood coating his golden hair. “I…,” Jesse paused gulping, “I got it.” Lukas gazed at Jesse doubtfully and unwillingly let go of Jesse’s cold hand. Jesse looked around the thick forest slowly trudging through the forest, her teeth grit.

Petra hastily lead everyone through the large thicket of trees. Jesse staggered and on instinct Lukas reached to grab her, but stopped once she regained her balance. Jesse glanced at Lukas, agony glimmering in her eyes. “I’m fine...go on ahead,” Jesse said quickly, noticing the blonde’s troubled expression.

“You sure?” Lukas asked anxiously. “Y-Yes,” Jesse said through grit. Lukas hesitantly walked ahead and Jesse clutched her badly stinging shoulder. Jesse trudged through the dense forest, her boots sinking into the fresh wet grass. The setting sun beamed down on Jesse’s back, the last rays of light illuminating the forest.

Jesse was slowly falling behind, her heavy footsteps growing slower and slower. Jesse’s labored, but heavy breaths became short agonizing gasps. Jesse could hear the tune of birds chirping their sweet songs.

Jesse could hear the rushing of water and she felt her face fall. She desperately hoped that their wasn’t a river that she wouldn’t have to cross. Jesse didn’t notice that she was falling behind because she was lost in her deep train of thought.

Lukas glanced behind him, noticing that Jesse wasn’t close to his side. Jesse’s glistening eyes meet Lukas’ soft, but worried gaze. Lukas was so overwhelmingly worried, she was falling behind yet she refused to ask for any help.

Lukas heavily sighed, raking his cold fingers through his soft golden locks. Petra grit her teeth, muttering nonsense under her breath as she spotted a rushing river not too far ahead from where they were. “We're gonna have to cross it.” Petra said bluntly.

“See this is why we should’ve let Jesse rest!” Olivia shouted, pointing to Jesse. “She’s obviously in, so much pain right now and your just pushing her!”

Petra huffed, her foot skidding across the dewy grass, “We have to keep moving!” Petra exclaimed, throwing her hands in the air.

“She’s falling behind!” Olivia pointed out, angrily glaring at Petra. “Well why don’t you help her then!” Petra retorted, her eyes burning with fury. “Why don’t you!” Olivia bellowed, her voice bouncing off the thick trees.

“You two need to quit! Fighting is getting us absolutely nowhere!” Lukas shouted, both of the girl’s furious gaze’s swiftly turning towards him. “Sure we need to get moving, but Jesse can’t handle it!” Lukas exclaimed, “Petra just go find Ivor and Olivia and I will stay here with Jesse!

She can’t do this Petra. She’s just gonna keep falling behind.”
