*8 years later* *Piper's point of view*

"Mom." I said for the thirtieth time. "Mom." Thirty first. She was literally right infront of me; being all lovey-dovey with Dad. "Okay, I'll walk to my choir competition on the other side of town."

"Oh crap, sorry, sweetie!" She ran and grabbed her keys. I rolled my eyes and went to the car. She gave Dad a goodbye kiss and she buckled up beside me. "Sorry for that."

"It's not the first time." I mumbled.

"I know, I know, and I'm sorry; your father is just so cute and-"

"But you have all the time in the world to look at his face after you drop me off."

"That's also true, what's with the tude?"

"I don't have a tude, this choir competition is really important to me and I'm probably going to be late because you were to busy making out with Dad." I responded; adjusting the bright blue bow in my hair.

"First, you're not going to be late; second, I don't make out with your father. . . well..not around you."

"Ew."

Not to long after we were at the competition. Dad couldn't come because of work, but Mom could so this was exciting. We entered the big doors and Mom went right to the auditorium then I went left for the practice rooms. My class was in room 78, it wasn't too far down; I entered the room and was greeted by my two best friends Hannah and Lucy.

"Are you excited for your solo?" Lucy asked. Yes, I had a solo, and no I wasn't excited; well I was, but I wasn't at the same time. Excited because I didn't tell Mom about the solo because I wanted to surprise her; and not excited because it's just so nerve wracking; one wrong note and I can make the whole class go home with not even a trophy.

"Well of course I am!" I turned towards the playing piano meaning time to warm up, I ran to my section, where, like my mother; I was a soprano. We did weird warm-ups and practiced our songs a few times.

"On stage in ten minutes." One of the many directors said to us. Oh my gosh. We headed to the stage and waited until it was our cue. The blue curtains open and we started to sing. Our group was kind of mixed with our songs, we had classic choir songs, and we hand fun songs. Then as we went into our last song 21 Guns (the cast of American Idiot version) it was my turn for the solo. I walked up to the microphone where it was already prepared for my short height. I waited a few counts then started.

(Did you?)

Did you try to live on your own? My hands started shaking but I saw my mom put her hands over her mouth over excitement I couldn't help but feel so confident.

(when you)

When you burnt down the house at home?

(Did you?)

Did you stand to close to the fire, like I liar looking for forgiveness?

It was a short out of the many solos in the song, but I definitely sang my heart out and I can tell my mom was proud because she was standing up and cheering until the ending of the song. We took a bow and we left the stage. I was stopped by a man tapping on my shoulder. He looked to be in his late twenty's, he has a Ryan Seacrest haircut, green eyes, and he's muscular in my opinion. He's pretty handsome.

"Johnathan Walker," He held his hand out to shake. "I saw you singing up there, and I must say; holy crap. You have a powerful voice."

"Thank you," I couldn't help but blush. "I suggest I get it from my mom."

"You know, you should try going to a school of music," I raised my eyebrows at him. "You'd still be learning other classes rather than music, but this school; which I'm a professor at; will get you colleges begging for you."

"Begging?"

"Begging. Maine's School of Music would kill to have a voice like yours. I'd give you a full scholarship."

"Maine? That's on the other side of the country!"

"Piper," My choir teacher Ms. Carter came. "I over heard the conversation and it's a great opportunity. I think you should think about it; but as for right now, Ms. Plizak, we have to go to the next room."

"Please,  take my card." He held it out and I awkwardly grabbed it.

My class made it to the next round and we'd be back next week.

"Bobby, I'm telling you; she did AMAZING! She had a solo and everything!" Mom shouted as she ran through the house looking for him.

"Is that so?" I heard him come from the basement. He came beside me and kissed my cheek.

"Yes! O-M-G! BOBBY IT WAS BEAUTIMIS!" She grabbed her keys and headed towards the garage.

"Where are you going?" We shouted after her.

"We're going out to celebrate." We all gathered in the car and went to Denny's. As we're eating I decided to bring up Maine.

"So...I was offered a scholarship to a music school..."

"That's great!" Mom said as she shoved pancakes into her mouth.

"Yeah, a professor came and said colleges would be begging for me, he'd give me a full scholarship, and it's a great opportunity," I shoved a whole pancake into my mouth. "Andumit'sinMainebutit'snobigdealbecausethisisabigchance."

"Honey, don't speak with your mouth full."

"Wait a second," My father started. "did you just say, it's in Maine?"

I start to drink my water. "WellImeanitcouldhaveslipped." I bubbled the water between my lips.

"Piper! That's on the other side of the country!"

"What? Nooo."

"You can't go."

"What? Dad!"

"No, Piper. It's too far."

"So? Mom came here when she was fifteen from New Jersey!"

"You're not your mother now are you?"

"Mom, what do you think?"

"Don't bring me into this." She held her hands up in surrender.

"You're my parent too," I protested. "you should have a say in this."

"I say it's a great opportunity, but I'm just not sure it's the right time to move on the other side of the country."

"But-"

"Yes, I understand I came here around your age, but I don't think it's the right time." She wiped her mouth with some napkins. "I think your father and I will have to think about it some more, but I don't think the chance are too good.."

I sighed and finished my food in silence. I knew they were right. I just thought it'd be fun I guess..ugh. Hopefully the odds are good.
