Luke POV

"Guess who's awake and asking for you?" Carl grins.

"Alisha" I rush and quickly stand my from chair and run past Carl. I make my way through the hall and to the last room on the lot and open the door slowly to see Alisha sitting up in bed reading her book. She sees me standing by the door and closes her book.

"Luke" she smiles with her full bruised face. I let out a shaky breath and stand beside her, leaning down and kissing her firmly on the forehead.

"I'm so sorry this happened to you, it's all my fault" I sigh.

"It would have happened no matter the reason I went outside Luke" she laughs.

"No, I should've been there quicker, checked on you sooner. It's just, dangerous for you around here" I croak. "And Jai" I chuckle "if I ever see him again I will hang him in the trees by his twig neck and film him chocking to death so I can watch it everyday of my life for my pleasure" I sourly speak.

"Luke" Alisha sighs.

"I'm sorry, I'm just glad you're okay" I weakly smile and take Alisha's hand in mine. Alisha gives it a small squeeze and rests her head on my shoulder.

"You know, I dreamt that I met your mother, I know I've only seen pictures of her but, it's like I've known her for a long time" she smiles. I frown a little.

"My mother?" I ask.

"She reminds me a lot of you, but then again. Maybe I've been hanging out with you too much" she giggles. I let out a small laugh and give her a slight smile.

"If you met my mother, it'd be chaos" I shake my head.

"Do you miss her?" Alisha asks. I lift my head and go into deep thought.

"Yeah" I finally nod. A moment of silence passes us and a light knock on the door interrupts our thoughts.

"Sorry Mr Brooks but Miss Hamilton needs to eat and rest, I know you want quality time but-"

"It's fine, it's for the best" I nod and sit up straight, moving Alisha's head off my shoulder.

"I'm not hungry" Alisha complains.

"No he's right, you should eat. You're lacking nutritions" I chuckle. "I'll see you in the morning when you wake up" I smile and peck Alisha's cheek.

"Mmkay" Alisha nods.

"Night Hamilton" I wave as I leave the room and head towards my bedroom.

3 days until winter.

Another day and I'm sitting in my boring office doing more work. I staple sheets together and pile files on top of one another. I sort through a few piles of junk and come across a letter addressed to Alisha. I frown to myself as I stare at the envelope in my hand. No one knows she is here.

"How are you going Mr Brooks?" Carl asks.

"Fine thanks Carl. Hey this letter was on my desk, it's addressed to Alisha. Who knows other than us, she is here?" I ask in a confused matter.

"I don't know, open it. Just in case" he says.

"Hm, I guess" I reply and slide my finger carefully under the envelope revealing a folded piece of paper. I take it out and sit the envelope on the desk and I begin to read the hand written letter.

Alisha, how are you? I'm doing okay. It's almost winter and people are already becoming weak. Thorner's are everywhere, they're heading south towards the house. Be careful and don't go outside. I don't know where they're all coming from but they certainly know where they are going.
