I watch through the curtains of the dining room as Luke gives a 'bravery' speech to all the men in the wipe out crew. They all stand broad and proud with their helmets in their arms. After the speech Luke gives each soldier a individual pat on the back. One man in particular, Luke gives a bro hug. The man turns his head towards me and weakly smiles. My body floods with a sad emotion and I quickly rush out from behind the curtains and down the stairs in my barefoot. I heave open the door just enough for me to slip through the door and I run letting out little sobs as my feet hit the soil.
"Don't leave" I tremble.
"It's my job miss Hamilton" Calum sadly smiles and hugs me tightly. I squeeze his armour tightly and sniffle.
"What if you don't come back?" I let my head fall.
"I always come back" Calum chuckles.
"Line up for mission takeoff" Luke calls and everyone scatters into rows of 4.
"You'll be okay, I'll see you soon" Calum gives me a comfortable smile.
"Promise?"
"Promise" Calum nods.
"Alisha go inside" Luke orders as he stands next to me.
"Good luck" I weep and Calum takes his place in line, giving me one last smile before placing his polished helmet over his head. I stand in silence with Luke as we watch the soldiers take off through the forest carrying their weapons and their dignity.
"I can't believe you" I shake my head and make my way back to the door.
"It just the way it is" Luke sighs and follows me through inside. I stomp down the small lot of stairs and push open the door to my room, Luke stopping the door before it slams on the wall.
"You can't stay in here all day" Luke chuckles.
"I where else am I supposed to go?" I shout in frustration.
"I have to work again today, you could come read that book you started?" I shake my head and look away.
"I can't believe this" Luke mumbles to himself. "We could try that session you wanted me to take today?" Luke suggests. A small smile creeps on my face and I look over to Luke who stands in the middle of the room picking at the skin on his arm.
"Fine" I nod. "Your office".Luke groans as he sits in the uncomfortable chair across the desk.
"Your chairs comfortable" I smirk and twirl around.
"Your lucky I'm doing this now hurry before I change my mind" Luke lets out another groan.
"Right yes, I uh need a pen and pad" I nervously laugh. Luke stands and walks next to me and opens up a draw and pulls out the the equipment I need. I thank him as he takes his seat.
"Do you remember where we left off Luke?" I question.
"Yes" he speaks. "I was going to show you what I was, now you know and we can move on"
"You're human Luke you're no different to anyone else in this world" I smile.
"Oh yeah? What 'human' can do this?" Luke squints his eyes and flicks his hand in a 'come here motion' making a load of books to fall from the shelf. I jump as the books collide with the ground.
"I um, I guess-"
"It's apart of me Alisha and it won't leave!" Luke snaps.
"Can I ask what happened in your life that made you so angry?" I ask and click the pen.
"You" Luke smirks.
"Excuse me?" I frown.
"You miss Hamilton. Ever since I met you, I was strictly scheduled to killing people who pissed me off. It was just me and my spirit controlling my life. And now that I met you, I feel like I have to change my entire life to suit you because there's something in you that I crave and I can't go a day of my long and dreadful life without you. I'm mad miss Hamilton because I can't get rid of this damn thing inside of me without love and passion and all I want is you to love me, and you just won't. Why won't you love me?" Luke rants.
I sit blankly in Luke's chair, blinking my eyes and my words caught in my throat.
"Say something" Luke frowns.
"You're angry because you're emotionally unstable, I can prescri-"
"I'm angry because you're rejecting me, just like the other girls" Luke's voice cracks on the last words.
"Listen. If you weren't a patient and you weren't a multiple case murderer, I'd maybe possibly date you" I honestly speak.
"You're saying I'm not good enough? Did any of these past few days mean.. Anything to you!?" Luke snaps.
"Okay.. I think we need a brake" I awkwardly speak and stand up, dropping my pen on the desk.
"No! You wanted this, we're finishing it!" Luke growls and grabs my scrawny wrists, causing a whimper of pain to roll of my lips. "Now, sit down" Luke warns and I quickly nod and take a seat. I scoop up the pen and pad in my hand and clear my throat.
"Luke I, I think you're suffering from depression and that's okay-"
"I'm not"
"If you'd let me, I could prescribe you with anti depressants to help the chemical balance in your brain" I explain.
"I don't want medication" Luke sighs and crosses his left leg over his right.
"It'll help. You'll be happier" I nod.
"Is it what you want me to do?" Luke questions. I nod again. Luke combs his fingers through his hair and lets out a long sigh. "Okay, I'll send Carl into the city". I let out a small smile.
"Thankyou"The next morning Luke and I are in the forest again. As promised, Luke is going to teach me to fight.
"What's the point of this?" I groan and drag the overly heavy sword in my hand along the dirt.
"I don't want you to get hurt that's all" Luke nods his head towards the sword I'm my hand indicating me to pick it up.
"I can take care of myself" I groan as I struggle to hold the blade in both of my hands.
"One hand!" Luke laughs.
"It's heavy! Can't we use sticks?" I whine.
"No because I'm trusting you to use a weapon and not kill me" Luke laughs again. "Now block this" Luke speaks and twists his sword around and attempts to lash at me with the weapon. I let out a frightening scream and hold the sword vertically across my face. I hear a loud clink of metal clashing together and I slowly open my eyes to see that I have blocked his hit. "Good, but don't flinch next time" Luke smiles and steps away from me.
"If you're trying to kill me of course I'm going to flinch" I argue. Luke's expression becomes blank and focused once again, knowing that means he's ready to fight, I hold the sword up like a baseball bat.
"Duck" luke orders and swings his sword, without a second to spare I duck low, dodging his swing. "Hit me" Luke orders again. I swing the sword sidewards and Luke blocks it. "Dodge right" Luke nods and sticks the sword forcefully in front of him, I dodge his hit with the sword and Luke stops.
"What?" I question his sudden stillness. Luke gives me a cheeky grin.
"You're doing so well" Luke compliments.
"Am I?" I grin. Luke nods.
"Now let's see if you can get my messages".
"What?" I frown in confusion.
"Listen to my instructions in silence" Luke explains further.
"How?"
"By listening" a voice speaks in my head.
"What the!?" I flinch and look at Luke who's grinning.
"How, are you doing that?" I ask in amazement.
"I told you baby I'm not normal" Luke winks. Luke speaks movement instructions in my mind and I swiftly react as Luke takes a swing at me. The only noise between us is the clashing of the metal and our mixed groans of effort. By half an hours practise gone by Luke takes one last swing over his head, "dodge in front" he whispers. I draw my sword infront of my face securely and stop his swing from slipping my skull. Puffing and panting Luke licks his lips and gives me a big grin. "That's my girl". His words give me a boost of confidence and I return the grin.
"Let's go eat lunch, you're choice of meal" Luke smiles and places his sword in a sword protecter buckled to his pants. I do the same and nod.
"I'm shaking" I laugh as I look down to my shaky and unsteady hands.
"That's adrenaline" Luke chuckles and takes ahold of my hand, steadying it. I meet eye contact with Luke as I gaze up towards him, he gives me a sweet smile and moves his fingers in my hand, interlocking our hands together. "Let's eat" he speaks in a hush tone and walks me back into the house. If I didn't know he was a psychopath killer and kidnapper, right now, I would think he's a normal, sweet man.
