My name is Patricia (Panagiota) Moisakos. I am the author of Athenian Arrow.
With myself being half-Spartan and half-Athenian, I wanted to showcase the difference in both cultures and signify the unity my family has. My mom is Athenian and my dad is Spartan. While my dad was born in Canada, his parents and the rest of his family were born and raised in a village in Sparti. My mom and some of her family members were born and raised in the city life of Athens while her mother was born on the island of Naxos and her father was born on the island of Samos.
I wanted to create a meaningful forbidden love story between the two city-states and with me coming from both cultures and researching countless hours on the matter, it definitely made it entertaining to write.
I first got the idea when my brother and I were playing the video game "Assassin's Creed Odyssey." It's set during the Peloponnesian War and since I grew up with both cultures and have studied Ancient Greece since I was young, I thought writing a forbidden romance during that period would be a great story to come to life.
I based Andreas' character design on Alexios from "Assassin's Creed Odyssey." As for Alexi's character design, I based it on Achilles.
"The Song of Achilles" by Madeline Miller also inspired me to write this story. After reading Achilles and Patroclus' love story, it made me think that someone had to have fallen in love during the Peloponnesian War as Achilles and Patroclus once did during the Trojan War.
I wanted to bring awareness that not all same-sex couples had that student/teacher relationship in Ancient Greece. Achilles and Patroclus' relationship didn't have that dynamic so I wanted to create a new, refreshing story similar to theirs.
I really hope you enjoy my forbidden love story. Forbidden because of the city, not because of gender.
I want to thank my parents, John (Giannis) Moisakos and Mary (Maria) Gerochristodoulou, and my younger brother Dean (Konstantinos) Moisakos for supporting me throughout my writing journey.
This is dedicated to the Athenians and Spartans of Greece.
