Getting stuff done like chores, homework, etc. is hard when you have executive functioning difficulties, depression, procrastination problems, etc. Here are some tips on getting the hard stuff done quickly.
1. Set up reminders to do stuff!
If you have a phone or similar device, you can set up reminders with alarms to do stuff you might forget to do otherwise. Pick a time that will work for you. Set up multiple reminders if you tend to swipe them away.
2. Pick the small things first, or do a bit at a time.
If a task takes, say, five minutes, do it immediately. If a task is a bit of a process, just do one part of it at a time if it would otherwise be daunting for you. That way, getting some of it done, especially if it's a chore, is better than not getting any of it done.
3. Don't put things off until the last minute!
I know, this is a hard one. You've got that essay due next week, you need to have something organized by a certain time, or whatever. If it's a task that's best completed before the day it's due, start the task as soon as you receive it. Following the "bit at a time" advice from above, do a bit of it every day until it's finished. Doing a bit everyday is much better than putting it all off until the day before and rushing because you're in a panic.
4. Listen to something!
Some tasks are made a bit more bearable this way, trust me. Listen to a podcast, a TED talk, a sermon, a musical, a YouTube video, or even your favorite album. Things with words are only advised for chores and such, however.
If you want to listen to music while doing homework or studying, you can listen to classical music or movie soundtracks. The Harry Potter soundtracks launch me straight to the Hogwarts library!
5. Simplify!
As they say, "Work smart, not hard." If there's anyway to simplify a task to make it go faster and be less overwhelming, do it!
Use a calculator for math homework (don't cheat, though— just use it for the basic math)! If the sink is overflowing with dishes, load the dishwasher up, put it on your wash, unload, load again, and only hand wash what's necessary to hand wash.I hope this helps you in some way!
