The Door

You were laying in bed, staring at the pendant on your necklace deep in thought. The gentle sound of the wind coming from your open window was interrupted by an awful squeaking sound. 'Riku's window' you immediately got up, curiosity taking over you. You looked out your window and sure enough, there Riku was, outside and heading towards the docks. It wasn't normal to see him out and about at night alone. "Wonder What he's up to.." you shrugged and hopped out your window, landing with a soft 'thud'. You looked back at your window and frowned as you felt a pit in your stomach. You shook it off before running off in the direction Riku was headed.

When you got to the docks you noticed his boat was missing "why's he going back to the island?" The pit in your stomach returned once again as it began to storm. You let out a sigh and got in your boat, beginning to row to the little island. You were about halfway there when the wind picked up and the water turned violent "w-woah!" You nearly fell out of your boat but ended up losing one of your ores "aw man!" The boat jerked suddenly and you hesitantly turned to see a giant wave about to crash down on you. You screamed as you were thrown off your boat and sent spinning through the water. After what felt like hours you surfaced to find yourself closer to the shore of the small island "nice!" You cheered and swam towards the sand.

You crawled onto the and flopped down, feeling tired. "Man this night can't get any worse." After a minute you pulled yourself up, spotting Kairi heading into the cave "When did she get here?" You questioned aloud as you looked up to the blackened sky. Something was terribly wrong. As your gaze turned from the sky and back down to the island you spotted someone. "Riku!" He was standing by the Paopu tree, staring at the sea. You took a moment, debating weather or not to go to Kairi first or not. you finally decided to make your way to Riku.

As you got closer to the seaside shack, little shadow creatures erupted from the ground around you. "what?" Their yellow beady eyes stared blankly at you as they began to surround you, inching closer and closer. "HISA!" Someone grabbed your wrist and jumped up on top of the seaside shack with you. You turned your head to see who saved you. "Sora!" You smiled at him, never feeling this happy to see him. He returned your smile "I'm glad I found you! Now come on! Riku us just over there." He pulled you towards the Paopu tree where Riku was standing, seeming oblivious to everything happening around him.

"Riku!" You called out to him as both  you and Sora stopped a couple feet away from him. "Where's Kairi?!" Sora yelled to Riku who still hadn't turned to face the two of you. "I thought she was with you or Hisa!" Riku continued to stareat the sea, keeping his back to the both of you "The door has opened." "What?" Sora asked as you stepped closer "The door has opened Sora!" Riku then turned towards the two of you "Now we can go to the outside world!" You stared at your friend in concern "What are you talking about?" You asked before Sora interrupted "We gotta find Kairi!" You looked up to the sky, seeing a massive ball of swirling darkness. Just the look of it sent a chill down your spine. "Kairi's coming with us!" He yelled making you jump and step back at his sudden outburst "Once we step through, we might not be able to come back. We may never see our parents again. There's no turning back." You barely recognized the boy in front of you. He was acting so strangely, talking about things you couldn't understand with no fear. "But this may be our only chance. We can't let fear stop us! Im not afraid of the darkness!" He then held out his hand to you and Sora, the calm, care free expression never leaving his face. "Riku..." Sora looked conflicted but his worried expression turned scared as a portal of darkness opened beneath Riku's feet. "No!" You ran forward and grabbed Riku's outstretched hand, not wanting to lose him. Dark tendrils began to curl and wrap around your bodies, drawing you in closer. You turned to Sora, noticing he wasn't with you. You held out your hand to him "Sora! Take my hand!" "Im trying!!" He seemed to be stuck in place as the darkness began to envelop him too. He frantically reached for your hand, a panicked expression on his face. "Sora!!" The both of you desperately tried to reach each other, his finger brushing against yours.

At once the darkness became too much and you could no longer see anything, it felt hard to breathe, like someone was pushing on your chest. It took you a second to realize that you had lost your grip on Riku. "Sora! Riku!!" You desperately reached out around you  for them, only to feel nothing. Beginning to panic you tried to mover or run but everything felt heavy. You began to feel sleepy when you saw a small ball of light, and everything became warm. You let sleep overtake you, hoping you'd wake up on warm sand to the sound of gentle waves. Deep down you knew your home was gone. Some things just aren't meant to be.
