A New Key

Zack and Hercules had been sitting together, watching the sky after a long day of sparring. They were talking about anything and everything, though Hercules would occasionally gush over a girl named 'Meg'. Zack, of course, actively listened and enjoyed the conversation....but something didn't feel right.

"Can you feel that?" Zack asked, interrupting Herc. Hercules gave Zack a weird look.

"If you wanted me to stop talking you could've—"

"No, no...somethings..." Zack looked up at the stars in confusion as his heart began to ache painfully.

"Y/n? Are you..." Zack trailed off as he looked back to Hercules, his eyes full of pain

"She...Herc i don't think.." Hercules frowned and put a hand on Zack's shoulder "She promised to come back, remember? She kept her promise last time. Don't give up yet."

Zack was silent for a few moments before he nodded "Yeah...you're right. She promised." The two returned their gaze to the sky, Zack's heart heavy and mind fixated on you. He wasn't going to give up, he believed in you.

Sora sat in the pilot seat of the gummy ship, he tapped his foot anxiously as they made their way to Hollow Bastion.

"Come on Sora! You're making the ship slow down!" Donald complained and Sora smiled sheepishly "O-Oh! Sorry, I'm just nervous. I feel like—"

Sora felt a strange almost coldness take over him. It felt like he just lost something really important. A strange glow started coming from his pocket. He reached inside furrowed his brows in confusion as he felt a weird star shape.

Getting over his initial shock of feeling the unknown object in his pocket, he pulled it out, seeing a purple star shaped charm. It glowed brightly and Sora stared at it before his eyes widened

"Y/n!" He turned to his companions "This is the charm on Y/n's necklace! Why is it acting so..." he became quiet as he realized why it was glowing "She's in trouble.."

"Gee Sora, how do ya know that?" Goofy asked before Sora leapt to his feet.

"Its glowing! It means something's wrong, I know it!" Sora said before he went back to the controls, the ship lurching forward as it sped up

'Don't worry Y/n...I'm coming.'

>Sora's POV<

There were some heartless that me, Donald, and Goofy had to defeat on our way up to the castle. I tried to keep calm and keep myself from losing focus.

A loud howl of pain pulled me from my thoughts and I ran to the source, seeing Riku standing over something— well someone

"Riku stop!" I yelled as I reached him. "What are you doing here?" Riku hissed as he rolled his eyes at my presence

"Im not leaving without Kairi and
Y/n!" I yelled and Riku seemed to flinch at their names before he regained his composure

"Kairi? What do you care about her?! All you care about is your keyblade! You don't have what it takes to save Kairi!"

He only mentioned Kairi. He didn't even seem to think of Y/n.

"Riku, what about Y/n?" I hesitantly asked and his angered expression turned sad for a moment before returning angry again

"Y/n? She was a traitor! She lied, she wouldn't give Kairi's heart back! Who cares about where she is!"

I felt a wave if nausea wash over me at his words. My silence only seemed to irritate him further.

"You, Y/n, and I have always been competitive...but its different for the two of us. You've always pushed me...as I've always pushed you. There can't be two wielders Sora! Now, let the keyblade choose..." Riku held out his hand and my Keyblade began to shake violently, lurching forward

"What? N-no!" My keyblade vanished, reappearing in Riku's hand. "But...i-I'm the one who fought my way here with the keyblade!"
I yelled in shock, the only thing I had was ripped away from me

Riku scoffed and shook his head "You were just the delivery boy." Riku then took out a toy sword, one that he, Y/n, and I would fight with.

"Here. Go play hero with this." I fell to my knees as the sword landed right in front of me. I had nothing now, Kairi's heart was gone, Riku was falling deeper in darkness and I had no idea where Y/n was. Everything was ripped away in only a few minutes. 

"Goofy, we have to remember our mission." Donald said as Goofy shot me a loot of pity. "Sora..Sorry." Donald said before him and Goofy walked after Riku

I took out Y/n's charm and looked at it. It no longer glowed...I was too late.

The charm began to glow again, gaining my attention. "What..?" Suddenly in my right hand a keyblade appeared, except it wasn't mine. It was Y/n's.

I felt my heart break as I stared at the keyblade in my hand. "Y/n? I'm sorry I couldn't get to you..." i mumbled as her smiling face came to mind.

I thought back to the carvings in the cave. I should have let her see them again, she wanted to but I was too embarrassed. She was my best friend, the most important person to me and I lost her. I couldn't save her.

"Come on, Sora. What are you doing sulking? You've got things to do!"

I looked up and my surroundings faded away, I found myself back on the island. I looked in front of me to see Y/n with her back to me, facing the sea as gentle waved brushed against the shore near her feet.

"Y/n?" I walked over to her "Is this-"

"Real? No. We'll this place isn't real."
I stared at her before I touched her shoulder, my hand going through her

I gasped in shock and retracted my hand as she turned to me "Sora...I don't blame you. It's okay." She smiled and I shook my head "Where are you? How can I find you?" I asked her desperately

"I...I'm afraid I'm out of your reach..." She gave me a sad smile and I shook my head, not accepting that answer

"But your keyblade! With it maybe I can—"

"—you have it because i gave it to you."

I felt warm tears roll down my cheeks "Y/n...please..help me save you."

She smiled at me and pointed at my chest "I'm right here. Keep me there, and I'll always be safe."

I felt myself being pulled back to reality, my surroundings faded back to Hollow Bastion.

I looked up to see the beast limping towards the castle. I ran over and grabbed onto him "hold on! You're hurt!"

He shook his head and looked to the castle. "I won't leave here without Belle."

I thought for a second before nodding "I came her for someone too."

I then began to make my way to the castle, I was ready to save my friends.
