Chapter three: King of the underworld

The next day Kayle and Danny were so excited after what happened the previous night that neither of them could sleep instead both of them spent the night outside practicing their "combat tactics" as they liked to call them. Nicola was sitting in the corner of the field looking at them shaking her head as if she was watching a pair of five-year-olds playing pretend. Then, Mr. Robinson comes up from behind her.
"they are more powerful then I expected," he said
-"do you think that they will be ready when the time comes" Mr. Robinson looked down at his watch 
and said "we shall just have to wait and see" he walked over to them with Nicola following close behind "My boys I have some news for you," he said as he came closer but Kayle interrupted 
"Hey Nicola check out this move we have been working on"
-"it will have to wait, boys," said Mr. Robinson " I have to leave for a few days and I'm leaving Nicola in charge"
-"where are you going, Sir," asked Danny 
-"I'm going to Greece apparently there is a new discovery that needs my expertise. While I'm gone you have to find your brother, Nicola will give you all the details" he walked up to both of them gave them a pat on the shoulder, they said their goodbyes and Mr. Robinson walked to his limousine and left. "so where do we find him?" asked Danny. Nicola did not say a word she just singled them to follow her. They got in another limousine and headed to the local college where Nicola studied when they got there Nicola took them to the secret base inside the college as they entered the room through the secret entrance Danny and Kayle were both excited. They started looking around while Nicola was working on her computer. after a few minutes of messing around, Nicola called them over "alright here is the plan" she started "over the last few weeks dangerous gang members have slowly either been found dead or have disappeared we believe this to be the work of hades since the bodies were not found with any physical injuries, and there are only three gangs remaining that fit the description of the rest of them namely highly dangerous criminals" 
She points at three red dots on the London map and tells them where to go, Danny, was placed on the red gang territory by the Thames, Kayle was placed at the blood fire gang territory on top of an abandoned apartment building. Nicola then stood up and gave them each a watch to put on "these are tracker watches, put them on and we can all find and talk to each other if we find him" she said "wait a moment" said Danny "isn't there one more gang?" 
-"yes, the orange gang," she said "luckily they are all in prison and ill keep an eye on them from here" she pressed a button on her computer and a window came up with live security footage from the prison the orange gang was in.
They all got set up and in just a few hours they were all in position, waiting.
Not long after they were all bored as they have never been before, Danny was hiding in the cold dirty water of the Thames river texting jokes to Kayle who was on the next building over the one he was guarding when Nicola called in "will you two focus on your job?" and Kayle having turned red as a fresh tomato said back to her "in our defense I didn't think you could read our messages" Danny was trying hard not to laugh. Almost ignoring the comment Nicola said "well if you two ever decide to take this seriously, call me back" and she ended the call. But just a few moments later she called again "guys hurry up he is here someone just took down the northern wall" Danny shot down the river towards the location while Kayle flew as fast as he could. 
They arrived just seconds apart on the northern side of the building where the wall had been turned to rubble and there was screaming coming from the inside. they ran in, Danny carrying behind him a small wave of water that he brought with him. 
They stepped inside to see a tall man being lifted by what seemed to be ghosts dragging the souls of some prisoners into his body. "stop!" yelled Kayle the man turned and said "who are you" in a haunting voice the echoed almost infinitely. Kayle continued "I am Zeus the god of the skies, this is Poseidon god of the seas, we are your brothers" when the man heard brothers he wrapped his hand around his head and screamed, "ARHHH I HAVE NO BROTHERS" and sent a wave os spirits towards them. Kayle sent out a bolt of lightning that quickly dispersed them all over the room. The man seemed interested "we are not here to fight" said Danny "we are here to help you. Tell me what's your name?" the man thought for a second then said "I.. I am Ash" Danny started to take small and slow steps towards Ash whilst talking softly " listen to me Ash you died at some point and you came back to life as Hades the king of the underworld" Ash was taken aback for a second "is that why I have this power?" "yes" Danny continued "the same thing happened to us, my name is Danny I was reborn as Poseidon, and this is Kyle he was reborn as Zeus. In our previous lives, we were brothers and we all came back together" "why?" asked Ash as his ghostly form started to fade away, his eyes regaining their color and slowly coming down towards the ground. "because the world is in danger and it needs us" Kayle said while coming closer than Ash seemed to be comfortable with. Ash was shorter than them even in his new form. "listen we are willing to ignore what you did to all those gang members if you promise to come with us" said Kayle grabbing Ash by the shoulder "wait what?" exclaimed Ash "you think that I killed all those gangsters in the streets?" Kayle looked confused to confused to speak, Danny noticed this and stepped in "but you are the only one that has the power to take the soul out of someone's body, are you saying you didn't do it?" Ash seemed offended "no I didn't" 
Kayle stood up straight and looked behind ash at all the prisoners that were on the floor and pointed to them "then what were you doing to them?" Ash just said "I was trying to get information out of them for who killed my friends" as he said that he fell backward slightly, not enough time had passed ever since what happened. Danny grabbed him gently and asked "then what were you doing" with tears Ash said "if I absorb a small portion of someone soul I can replace it with one of the spirits I control and control them for a short time" Kayle mad a bit of a sour face thinking to himself "this guy might be more powerful than all of us" Nicola came out of a corner "did you guys calm him down" "whos that" panicked Ash Kayle stepped in "on that's Nicola shes a friend" then moved in closer to whisper in his ear "and she has a sweet mansion we stay in" Danny's eyes rolled and he said to Ash "what happened to your friends Ash?" he tryed to speak but only tears came out "thats ok you can tell us when your ready, I prommis we will do our bst to help you" Ash hugged Danny and said "thank you" "well Hades now we have to find a way to erase those gangsters you killed if you want to walk around with us" said Nicola Kayle grabbed her by hr shoulders and pulled her away "ok first of all his name is Ash, and second he didn't kill the gangsters" 
-'Kayle, what are you saying?"
-"I'm saying maybe there is someone else out there that is killing people"

Two days had passed and Ash was settling into his new home, he was still attending school regularly and studying while Nicola was trying to track down who was taking the souls of innocent people and of course Kayle was trying to find new battle strategies and Danny was practicing his powers, arguably he was the weakest of the three because he could only use his powers of water was nearby otherwise he was just a fish out of water.
one afternoon Nicola called all of them into her room which was also her office "ok guys we have a problem the killings have spread more and more people are disappearing or showing up without a soul, but the good news is, I think I found a way to catch the one doing this" "how?" asked Kayle getting all excited. 
Nicola rolled her eyes and said "well if you would let me finish, it seems all the killing happen within a certain radius of about two miles" "oh great we've basically got em corned" said Ash sarcastically. after a short pause, Nicola continued "all the victims have one thing in common, they all have relatives buried at the local graveyard which they attend regularly" "so what its the local graveyard everyone would know someone there" said Danny "I know" said Nicola but its the only lead we have" she looked upset almost desperate but then she stood up and bravely addressed the gods before her "all of them have attended the graveyard at night at some point in the week that they disappeared. We are going there tonight, better get ready" and she shoved them all out of her room. 
"guys I think she's lost it," said Ash Kayle pulled them both further down the hallway knowing that Nicola has bat-like hearing, once he was sure they were at a safe distance he responded 
"she might have, but if you have a better idea I'm listening" Ash had nothing to say.
"Listen, Ash, she might be a little strange but she's in charge," said Danny as he and Kayle walked away leaving Ash dazed and confused as to what he had missed. 

That night they were driving to the graveyard Danny, Kayle and Ash they decided it would be too dangerous for Nicola to come with them since she didn't have any powers but she could communicate with them through the tracker-watches she gave them. The driver dropped them off at the entrance, it was terrifying the gate was two giant stone pillars with gargoyles on the top of them and an old rusty gate which they had to climb over since it was locked.
Now they're in and all of them back to back looking in all directions with their flashlights, absolute silence, until." are you guys in yet" they all screamed and jumped in all directions until they realized that it was Nicola talking to them through the watch "why did you scare us like that?" exclaimed Kayle but Nicola was laughing too hard to give an answer, after a few seconds she composed her self and started to explain her plan.
"Alright here's what you do, there is obviously some sort of supernatural creature there so you must challenge it" 
-"and how do we do that?" asked Ash 
-"try showing off your power, it doesn't know you guys are Gods, go ahead threaten it" she answered. They looked at each other everyone waiting for someone else to have an idea, so they gave Danny the bottles of water they where carrying for him and he walked over to a nearby sink and opened it, Ash started to summon as many spirits as he could and Kayle shun light out of his body to illuminate the graveyard.
They waited for a few seconds with only the sound of the night, but suddenly from a grave that looked freshly dug despite also looking very only came a hand that was black like the night sky itself so it was hard to see but soon the rest of the body came out of the ground and they could hear it, a screeching that sounded like hundreds upon hundreds of souls were being burned, its eyes glowing red with fire. 
They were haunted by the image of this thing, apart from the eyes there was nothing else notable about it but it appeared human-like, they got into position and then a mouth formed on the creature with huge jaws and just as red as its eyes "ah the Gods you have returned" it said 
"who and what are you?" Asked Kayle, it smiled and said
"I am just one of many I bring power to the mighty one"
"are you the one that has killing all of those people?" asked Danny bring the water closer to him he was ready for a fight but the creature laughed "AHAHAHAHAH you Olympians so concerned for you little mortals you were willing to die for them AAHAHAHAHAH pathetic they are nothing but a resource something to build our temples and keep them clean" Danny and Ash were ready to attack but Kayle signaled them to wait for a moment when he said "when you say our temples who do you mean" the creature smiled again "you are not the only Gods that ruled this earth, for now, we might be weak but we have been waiting for millennia for our revenge" the creature screamed and soon the fire from its eyes wrapped around it and it was set ablaze but the fire grew and grew and grew until it was the size of a small apartment building and now the creatures form came from the flams it was now made of fire.
Kayle signaled them to attack and it started, Danny sent all the water he had collected towards the thing but it steamed up on contact. Kayle hit it with as much lightning as he could conjure up but was just absorbing it and becoming bigger and bigger, Ashe's spirits charge forward and the monster opened its mouth and started to eat them and became bigger still and its flames brighter. 
They all just stared at their doom as the monster laughed at them and said "I am made of magic your attacks only strengthen me" Kayle paused and thought as the creature mocked them and he had a eureka moment "guys we can't fight him with magic but we can still fight with our fists' without letting them say another word he heroicly flew towards the monster and stuck it on the left side of its face, the beast was shaken as its head turned and it loses its balance and almost fell over. Danny summoned the water beneath his feet and charged towards it and started to kick and punch and scratch and bite, the monster attacked as well its send flamed after them knocking Kayle out of the sky and sending flying towards Ash who caught him with his spirits but Danny kept fighting 
"come and help us," said Kayle as he was getting back up
"all the power I have is magic," said Ash 
"so how does your power work you summon the dead?"
"not exactly the spirits come from the underworld I can't let too many though cause it starts to hurt me.." Ash paused for a second "I have an idea go help Danny Kayle flew and started striking the beast until it let out a burst of fire and send both Danny and Kayle shooting like bullets towards a wall, they couldn't move for a second they were badly hurt but the monster was running towards them, just before it reached them it was sent to the other side of the graveyard by a mysterious force Kayle and Danny looked up to see Ash who was standing at the same height as the beast or more "what have you done" asked Kayle ash smiled and replied "I just absorbed the spirits and gained their collective power" Kayle looked at Danny and whispered "I told you he would be the strongest" Ash with a smug look on his face since he heard what Kayle said turned towards the monster and charged to strike  kicking it on the chin its jaw broke but it grabbed Ashes leg and threw him down and started blasting him with flamed but as he did so Kayle noticed something "look" he said to Danny "its shrinking" and so it was Danny loocked closer and said"the more power it uses to weaker it becomes" Ash having had enough of the fire kicked the monster in the gut kcocking ti back the Kayle came flying around it insulting and teasing it. "what is he doing?" asked ash when Danny came from behind him "the more it attacks the smaller and weaker it becoms we will make it hit us you try hitting it" then he used his wave of water witch was still building up from the sink he had found and went around and aroun d the monster calling it foul names as Ash kicked and punched it like there was no tomorrow.
The monster screaming it pain and it sends flames it all directions but to no avail, Ash could heal the wounds instantly even though he was running low on clothing Danny was putting out the fire as it coming towards him and Kayle flying so fast he didn't even feel the heat. soon the monster was getting smaller and smaller until its flames went out and its the size of a small dog it fell the ground and said "you foolish Gods you have no idea what you're doing" "I think we are saving the world" said Kayle as he stepped on its chest" the creature laughed and said " you don't even have your full power I am just a thought in the mind of a much more power being you have no chance of defeating the first ones" with this the creature burst into light blinding all three of them and then it disappeared then "are you guys ok?" asked Nicola over the communication device "yeah" they said all together whilst rubbing their eyes and laughing and they headed home.
They arrived and the sun was starting to rise Ashes clothes has almost completely disappeared from the fire but they relaxed bathed and changed and they told Nicola everything "so Nicola since you're the expert", asked Ash " who are the first ones?' Nicola seemed surprised by this question "the Gods of the ancient world were powerful beings but by no means were they the most powerful, before the gods were the Titans far greater than the Gods but you locked them away when you took over the skies" she said as she pointed to Kayle "if the creature talked about them it must mean that a titan is still alive" said Danny. Nicola walked off and started to call someone "more powerful than us," said Ash looking a bit upset and panicked "Kayle wrapped his arm around his shoulder and with a smile said "how could there be such a thing" "I don't know" said Danny "well a little over a month ago we discovered that Gods were real maybe there is something greater than us" "well whatever it is" said Kayle triumphantly standing up " if it's planning to harm people we are going to stop it" Ash looking inspired stood up as well "where ever it may be" then Danny stood up as well "no matter how powerful it is" it was a moment were for the first time they felt like brothers.
"Alright boys we have a mission," said Nicola as she came back into the room 
"what?" they all said together perfectly in sync
"we have to restore your powers and memories" she replied 
"and how do we do that?" asked Ash 
"we will talk about that tomorrow today you need to rest" and with that, she left leaving them all to enjoy life for as long as they could
