I first met him on a summer, when I was 8 years old.
Someone pressed on the doorbell button and I had no other choice than to open it. Of course, being a good child I am, I first looked through the peephole to check who came here, but seeing as it was my father, I had no doubts about opening it.
So I did.
But besides my father, there also was a woman in a dark blue attire, her dark hair cut short, face fair and pretty, but slightly retorted by a nervous thin smile.
"Hi dad," I immediately greeted a tall male and then turned to the lady next to him. "Good day madam, I am Kim Taehyung."
"Hello Taehyung, I've heard a lot about you. I am Jungsuk," she answered with a light, smooth voice and tried to lean in just to give me a handshake. However, she was quickly pulled back by someone behind her. "Jungkook, baby, it's okay. Don't be shy," she added up and by then I could see a top of someone's head behind Jungsuk - black fluffy locks and a pair of two deep, dark, scared eyes drilling the holes in the pavement.
"Taehyung," my father spoke up and I turned my full attention to him, even though I was extremely curious about the mysterious being behind that woman's back. "They are going to live with us from now on. You might as well call Jungsuk your mother and Jungkook, he is your little brother from now on."
I nodded obediently. Not just because I was educated into being a small obedient pup, but also because the thought of having a little brother excited me. Almost every birthday candle I blew up by then was with a wish of having a sibling, even though my mother was already deceased. It didn't matter to me. I wished for it and in that moment, my dream became a reality.
I nervously fidgeted in my place, breathed in and took my steps forward, just to get behind the woman and see my new sibling. And he was there, standing still, his fists tightly clenched on his mother's blouse, slightly oversized white tshirt hanging on his shoulders, face round and adorable, eyes fixated on my feet as if they were the biggest threat in the world.
It didn't repel me in any way, though. Actually, it was the opposite. Being a social butterfly I was, I got closer to him, leaned to match our height difference and broke out into the biggest smile I could.
"Hey Jungkook, I am Taehyung," I introduced myself and streched out my hand to him, waiting for a handshake.
Nothing. Absolutely no reaction.
"I'm sorry, am I scaring you? It's okay, I am a good person. Do you want to go to my room? I have a lot of toys I can show you. Maybe we could even play together, what do you think?" I tried to sweet talk my new baby brother, but all reaction I got from him was a single blink as his gaze fell on my feet.
"Jungkook," Jungsuk decided to help me out. "You should go with him. You'll be living with him anyways, so you should get to know each other."
Little boy threw a glare his mom's way, then turned back to me, making our eyes meet for the first time. And something seemed to switch in him in that moment. Jungkook's scared face turned into one of amazement, his lips slightly pulled apart in awe. He then easened the grip on his mother's clothes, took my still streched out hand and snaked his tiny arms around it like a koala does to a tree.
I was happy with that. And Jungkook plastered a shy smile up his face too, making his cheeks pop up in a way that made him look like a cartoon bunny.
"Should we go then?" I asked then confidently, my rapid heartbeat slowing down as I already knew I was accepted as a big brother.
Jungkook still didn't answer clearly, almost like he tried to hide his voice on purpose. Instead, he nodded, so I didn't take any more time to get the details and took my new adorable little brother to my room.
Thinking about it now, I should have noticed then, that something about Jungkook was off. However, I was blinded by my new found happiness, which was exactly Jungkook himself.
