I have to say.. despite having spent some time on the Varismalian Countryside, helping out at a Dragon Ranch, running around the forest playing with the orphans now and then, I was really not well attuned to nature.

Well, my human self wasn't anyways. As a demon, I have the ability to see in complete darkness, immense strength, heightened reflexes, and a nose that can sniff out a fresh baked Apple Pie from 10 miles away if I try.

In other words,  if a demon decided to become a Hunter at some point (which they wouldn't because of the whole issue of hunters killing off plenty of us) they would probably become immensely successful.

However, I was still iffy on being a demon anyways. So despite all the advantages, I had no idea how to track and hunt.. or at least I wasn't too good at the Wilderness Survival classes we took at the Knight Academy.

So when we started heading into the deeper parts of the Formonde Woods, deeper than I had ever been before, it was safe to say I already wanted to go home.

I was smacking my body all over, trying to get rid of the mosquitoes who were all after my smooth demon fleshy parts.. and it was annoying whenever I walked between some dense undergrowth and somehow Melia got her blade stuck on vines.

Even Vel wasn't graceful in the deep woods. Several times she got her twin tails stuck on passing branches, and tripping seemed to be a regular issue for her.

I never knew a forest could be this.. dense. It was like walking through the branches of one ginormous tree that was peeking out the ground.  The undergrowth being so dense, we could barely see 5 feet in front of ourselves.

Fantage on the other hand, moved through the forest like a prowling wolf. Light on her feet, stooping down now and then to look for tracks.

Gunter was also pretty good at moving around too despite his giant super bulky Dark Souls style armor. Which made me think there HAD to be some sort of magic at work, because he looked way too big to even be allowed in this forest.

"Wh.. why would the Princess.. actually go IN this place!!" I stammered as for the umpteenth time I walked into a bunch of hanging vines and used Melia's blade to chop them off of me.  "I mean seriously!! The bugs here are bigger than my head!"

"It's not like we don't find it odd." said Fantage with a shrug as she eyed a few more tracks on the ground.  "But she seemed to be in a big hurry.. and she wasn't graceful either.. tripping all over the place as she walked... which fits.. she's no outdoors type of girl.. and neither it seems are you two.."

"Haha!" grunted Vel sarcastically as she rolled off a hill, wrapped in undergrowth, coughing as she struggled to beat some more tangled roots out of her hair. "We're fighters mainly, not hikers.."

"And here I thought demons and elves were beings of the forest.." said Fantage with a smirk.

"Humans used to live in caves and hunt wooly mammoths, but you don't see them doing it now do you?" said Melia quickly, using her chains to wrap around a tree and help pull me up by my back out of a large muddy pit I had just stumbled into.

"No.. instead we hunt Chimeras, Trolls, and Drakons." said Fantage. "Honestly, you so called 'higher' races all seem to be devolving as we humans only keep gettin' smarter.."

"You presume much master.." Gorn the Zanbato said in his deep slow voice.

"Presuming Presuming.. what's wrong with Presuming as long as what you presume is right?" said Fantage. "Bunch of kids.. you two brats need to know yer place.. and not question your elders. "
