I've been outmatched before..
Heck I think I've been so outmatched by so many different people around me, it's hard to feel like I might be the overpowered protagonist of some Isekai anime.
I've been manhandled by a Daemon, barely drove off a crazy god with a sword despite having unlocked something very OP at the time. Further manhandled by Vorpal.. had the crap beaten out of me in mud wrestling with Grafton, and I live with two adopted sisters who redefine the term "strength" in ways one could never imagine.
Forget the fact that I'm in running with Medi for Second Strongest Student in the Academy.. the world around us is just way too crazy.
And Moriarty was just one of those crazies..
After bringing us aboard the airship, she had us locked in the cargo hold.. lumped on top of each other, tied up in magic enchanted rope... like a bunch of very irritated potatoes..
And considering we were flying, and not tied down, that meant we rolled and jumbled around pretty often.
"Ouch!" I grunted as I was sent flying into the back of the wall and both Shirley and Kass slammed into me, further increasing the pain of impact.
"S.. Sorry Mira! You okay?" said Kass.
"Why does this even hurt!?" I said. "I'm a demon, I've been thrown through walls.
"Demon strength and durability is owed to the vast amount of magic running through their veins." said Shirley. "Owed to Dragons being their originators, they can be said to have the 'Strength of a Dragon' and the 'Beauty of Elves'. However these enchanted ropes were meant to hold Kaiju Wielders and their Kaiju, meaning they have to have immensely potent magic negating enchantments.. this means that the magic affecting your demonic strength is also negated.."
"But... the magic in a demon or elf's body is insanely potent and powerful.." said Kass. "What kind of enchanted rope would be THIS potent?"
"Moriarty has acquired herself a massive amount of resources, there is no doubt." said Shirley. "She has access to many things that perhaps even the King does not possess.. it probably wouldn't be far off to suspect that she holds even more influence over this country than the Royal Family in it's entirety.. "
I eyed Shirley, the way she spoke, I could sense a nervousness in her voice that one would not normally associate with the great Sherlock Holmes. "Sh.. Shirley.. are you scared?"
Shirley smiled at me. "Yes.. I am.. unusual isn't it? The old Holmes would have relished danger.. part of the thrill of the case isn't it? To learn to cope with such a possibility of death.. to learn to outwit danger.. to prove my genius at escaping the inescapable.. but you've noticed it too haven't you Mira? The cruelness of genetics that having a different body brings?"
I knew what Shirley meant. There were distinct differences between Mira and Steven that couldn't be explained by something like 'character development' or 'people change'.
My new attraction to males, my newfound liking for marshmallow cereals, etc. I mean, in the whole, Mira and Steven were still the same people, with 95 percent the same personality, but in a way, genetics had an odd way of influencing the type of people we were.
Ultimately, I believe in free will and that we have a choice, and we decide who we are.. but that doesn't mean genetics can't influence us to a degree.. or at least.. make it harder for us to lean towards an opposite choice..
Cait Siths were naturally timid beings.. their adaptations.. quickness, great hearing, great sense of smell.. all of it was to supply a Flight or Fight response.. mostly Flight.. in short, Shirley was naturally more timid than the adult human that she used to be.. and it was hard not to be..
