Chapter Eight

I waited quietly until the coast was clear, trying to look non chalant like a good child. As soon as no one was looking I stood up from where I was leaning casually against a desk covered with papers and slid through a swinging door. I ducked down a short hallway without attracting attention and started sprinting as I headed down a long hallway layered with doors and side hallways. I grabbed my mask from my pocket and unzipped my hoodie, flinging it onto the floor. I pulled my shirt off revealing my bright spiderman suit and threw the shirt into the same oblivion as the hoodie. I pulled my mask on quickly. The pants were a bit more of a struggle than the rest of the articles. As soon as the jeans reached the ankles my glorious self tripped hard with my foot stuck in them. My chin smacked hard into the floor. I said up quickly and rubbed my chin. For someone with superpowers, such as myself, I wasn't very graceful unless in the midst of my activated adrenaline.

I got back up to start running down the hall again, but before I got anywhere a voice echoed out from a doorway to my left. An angry woman seemed to be yelling and cursing. I creaked open the door that I could hear the voice coming from, and peered in. As I predicted, it was a very angry woman. She yelled again, seeming to degrade herself for something she did. She kicked hard at a desk. For a moment she seemed to regret her actions, then a phone rang at the desk. She quickly steadied herself and brushed out her wrinkles in her uniform, and picked up the phone. She listened intently with a stiff face. Her face twitched a couple of times, until it came her time to respond; "of course sir....I'm sorry sir.......the distraction proved insufficient, next time we'll need greater tactics, especially against Captain America and these so-called Avengers."

I inhaled quickly, and leaned in further to try and hear better. This woman, whoever she was, was the reason that the Avengers had been called out for a faulty attack while the city was under bomb threats! Perhaps she was a mole for the Germans! A spy?!

"so cool," I whispered. The woman stiffened immediately, and I clamped my hand over my mouth. She whispered into the phone, and set it down on the table silently. Slowly, she turned around and started making her way over to where I was hiding. I jumped up quickly towards the ceiling and clung on. She peered out the door, andchecked around the corner. I held my breath, hoping that when she turned around she wouldn't spot hiding on the ceiling. Luckily though, she didn't raise her head or spot me. She rushed back into the room, leaving the door wide open, and picked up the phone again. I crawled along the ceiling trying to get close enough to hear the person on the other side of the phone line.

Finally, as I got closed and closed to her, I could pick up a man's voice speaking. "have they found all the bombs?" he said.

"All but one,"the woman replied,          "they have not detected it yet. And even if they did it'd be too late for them. The bomb will go off in 35 minutes, and even if they got there in time there'd be no time left the stop it before it explodes."

"which bomb is it?" the man asked.

"The tsar bomb underneath times square, Sir. They have not realized that all the other bombs were only distractions yet."

"Good," the man replied, "let's keep it that way."

The woman replied and hung up the phone. I inched back along the roof, heading for the doorway, and slipped out only moments before she turned around. I began sprinting through the hallways again. If they haven't found the bomb yet, it means that the bomb the woman spoke of would be set to detonate in under 35 minutes, and will kill many people!

"I have to get to that bomb," I whispered under my breath.

A/N- sorry for the ridiculously short chapter! Also, I know nothing about nothing so a tsar bomb and times square are the first answers I got when searching up bombs and streets in NYC.

I'll probably be wrapping this story up within the next couple chapters, and I'll try to make them way longer!
