I am not a big believer in love at first sight, so I know that I am not in love with Bambi but I do know that I will definitely be seeing her again. It's almost impossible to stop thinking about her gentle eyes and her soft voice.
I park my car outside my vast home and walk in calmly. My parents are arguing about me in a separate room and my mum is blaming everything on my dad. I leave the living room and decide to get ready for school. My cheek smells like lavender and I remember smelling it in Bambi's house; in her hair. When I'm done with my shower, I take my bag downstairs and sit down as the chef presents me with a bowl of cereal and some orange juice.
'Dean, where have you been?' my mother screeches as she bursts into the room.
I carry on eating my cereal like as if she's not even there and then suddenly my dad comes in prepared to raise his voice.
'We've both had to leave work early to search for you' he yells.
'What are you talking about? You haven't even left for work yet' I raise an eyebrow.
'That's not the point, Dean' my mother snaps.
'So what is?'
'Why would you just disappear at five-thirty in the evening without telling us?'
'Because I'm a teenager'
'I'm not going to take that attitude from you'
'You're the one who is trying to lie to my face! What if I decide not to take that attitude from you?'
'Dean that's enough' dad's booming voice interrupts my thoughts and stuns my senses.
'What?'
'Go to school, Dean' he rubs his eyes and yawns.
I place my spoon back into the bowl and shove the chair violently into its place, not forgetting to also slam the door and imagine the house quivering. While I drive to school, all I can think about is how much I regret going there but not for the usual teenager reason.
'Dean!' Tasha squeals from the other side of the parking lot.
I stay put in my car and wait for her to run over in her silver high heels and kiss me on the lips to make the other girls jealous.
'It's been a while since I've seen you' she says.
'We saw each other yesterday'
'Come on Dean, you know what I'm talking about'
I know exactly what she's talking about but it scares me that she's bringing it up again. I was actually hoping that somewhere along the way, the spark had died because Tasha started acting weird and I started secretly hating her and gagging over everything she does. I begin to throw up a bit in my mouth because this is the part of our conversation where I pretend that I'm still in love with her.
'You're right and we should see more of each other'
'How about we skip Math?'
I know that we are going to spend those thirty-five minutes doing things that would make me hate myself for a really long time and do I really want that?
'How about we go to my house after school?'
She licks her lips; declaring her yes and sashays off, swinging her hips more than usual. I know that she's trying to attract the other boys because she thinks I'm intriguing when I get jealous.
'I think Dean Thompson has arrived gentlemen' Caleb calls out
Alex, Gabe, Ross and Caleb march towards me, taking no time to count their steps and look elegant while looking rich at the same time.
