Author's Take: Character Names So Far

So hello there reader! So, after spending a few weeks developing the plot and how things will turn out, I wanted to share with you some more info about the characters I've introduced so far and how I came up with their names. I've managed (so far) to moderate how many characters I'm actually making in this story so I don't confuse anybody! So yeah....here they are so far.

Stella Galante - "the visionary rebel, the analytic one"

Stella is a very observing character, as she usually tries to analyze the world around her. (Sometimes too much) So far, she hasn't been having the best time in Skyfeller in her freshman year, but at least she has found new people to guide her rebellious spirit. She is very sly and smart at times, even though she can never manage to get things her way, but she is a natural actor, if you do notice in some scenes I've introduced. She is also a very happy person, unless something goes against what she believes or thinks. (Going and being in Skyfeller for the next 4 years, for example.)

Stella's character is based off Stella Yamada/ Stella Penn from "Lemonade Mouth" and a little bit of Tris from "Divergent".

How I came up with Stella's name? Well, I've always had Stella as the definite name for the character to focus on in the story. I thought it's a good name to use, as it isn't too exotic or something. I had a hard time with last names, so I was sitting under a tree making the character list eating cookies, until I found the cookie bag and the names of the cookies were "Galantes" (which are pretty good) so I'm like, why not? And here's a fun fact; Stella's name sort of translates to "Star Cookie."

Reyna  Tasslemeyer - "the conformist, the dependent one"

Reyna is a very supportive, yet complex character, as she carries the role as a representative of Skyfeller. A senior who you'd consider "the perfect student", things aren't always what they seem. She is very kind and caring person, and someone that Stella likes to be around out of all the people attending Skyfeller Academy High. She is a very, very influential character, and has gotten Stella and many others out of too many rough spots to count! However, she can be very manipulating, but can be controlled very easily.

Reyna's character is based off Reyna the Roman praetor from the "Percy Jackson" series and the goddess Palutena from the "Kid Icarus" video games.

The concept of Reyna's character was a hard one to make, as these types of characters had to do only certain things in the book before they could easily go out of character. When coming up with the name, I was going for either Regina or Olivia, as they were very headstrong yet gentle names for such a character, until I realized how common the two names were. (*cough cough* Regina George from Mean Girls *cough* Plus, I know 20 people named Olivia) I tried every name (Aisha was a close one for Reyna) I could imagine, until inspiration decided to hit me to name this character Reyna. Reyna's name also came from re-reading the Percy Jackson series before the Blood of Olympus book came out, from Reyna the Roman praetor, so her character was somewhat inspired from her too. Anyway, how I came up with the last name Tasslemeyer? A local weather reporter had this last name before, and it definitely stood out in my mind to this day. Plus, it's an intellectual name, so it was fitting for Reyna, that supposedly perfect student.

Dexter "Dex" Leonardi - "the artist, the mysterious one"

Finally a male character! Dex is a cool and lax character, and a senior in Skyfeller. He'll be friends with everyone and anyone because of his nature, despite his occasional sarcasm. He's the kind of person you think you might find on the varsity sports teams, but no. In fact, you'll find him in the art room after school, spending time on his recent canvas he made himself. However, he is very sensitive and will do anything to save his family and friends.

Dex's character is based off Iggy in the "Maximum Ride" series and the personality of someone I know in real life.

Dexter is definitely a very nerdy and uncommon name for this character type. (You were probably thinking about the stereotypical "Poindexter the nerd...Go away, Poindexter.." sort of thing..) But I wanted something unusual for this guy, especially since his character isn't something you'd commonly find in guys. Plus, who wouldn't think "Dex" is a cool name? Leonardi was a cool last name that someone suggested to me when I asked for a cool last name....Plus, he's artsy, so I might as well incorporate an artist in the name (Leonardo da Vinci). It has a cool ring to it, don't you think? (*Plays "Single Ladies" by Beyonce on cue*)
