Cahya's POV

"As you know, in our community we're very fortunate to only have a few citizens with disabilities (A/N disability= special ability in the Lost Cities). However, these elves are a threat to both themselves and those around them," said a flat voice in a hushed tone. It seemed to belong to one of the highest and most respected leaders in Neverseen, Ruy. I had heard his voice commanding those in the 16 year old fighting tournaments at the end of the year.

"For the safety of us all, they must be restrained and eliminated," his voice faded into the background as a memory resurfaced within me.

A sharp knock sounded on our tall front door. Our heated conversation about which pet to adopt ceased as the sound reverberated throughout our dining room. My mom's chair made a soft noise when she pushed her chair back on the plushy carpet. "I wonder who it could be at this time." Her smile slipped away and a worried expression replaced it. "Cahya, I believe it's past your bedtime. Head upstairs and get ready please," my mother said shakily. I would have protested, but her serious expression convinced me otherwise. I slowly walked upstairs, lingering to see who our unexpected visitor was. I gasped when the door creaked open to reveal two darkly cloaked figures from the Neverseen. What could they want from us?

"Lyra, Esmé and Wren Sau you are under arrest by the Neverseen for disabilities," the rough voice of a Neverseen member declared as he moved forward.

I raced back toward the door, pleading the Neverseen members to let my family stay.

They shook their heads and one of them said, "It is for the better. With disabilities they are dangerous to the community and you. They must leave."

"You will be watched closely for any sign of a disability. As for today, you have one hour, then we will return and escort you to your cousins house," a Neverseen member said sharply.

"You can't do this. Stop. Stop," I yelled, anger bubbling inside of me and tears streamed down my cheeks. A Neverseen member held me down and I struggled against his grip, but he was too strong.

"I'll always love you."

"We will too honey. I'm sorry, there's nothing we can do. We need to keep you safe. Goodbye," my mom said as she, my father and sister were led out of the house.

The Neverseen member released me and followed the other, closing the door noisily behind him. I ran towards the window hoping to see family for the last time, but they were gone.

Rage and sorrow boiled within me, warring for a place in my heart. A tingling sensation seemed to envelop my body, rising from somewhere deep within me to the tips of my fingers. The energy twisted out of my grasp, begging to be let out, and latched onto the first power source it found.
