DJ's birthday was coming up, and so was Halloween. I was sitting with Alex in his car after grabbing some food while trying to figure out the perfect gift for my brother. Alex was looking at his phone, reading through all his Halloween party invites.
"Which party are you interested in the most? I know it's a long shot getting you to one, but one of them has to sound somewhat appealing," Alex tried to convince me as he had his arm around me.
Honestly, I didn't have much interest in doing anything for Halloween. It was my favorite, and I knew he was aware of how I would go to a party if I got to dress up as something stupid- but that was reserved for my memories with Mark. Dressing up as stupid paired characters, like from Pulp Fiction, or the previous year he was a blond haired Aladdin while I was Jasmine. It was sweet and meaningless, and I loved it. Obviously, I didn't go all out like Emily did, and her disappointment when Alex showed up as Tom Cruise from Top Gun rather than her expected Clyde while she was Bonnie- he still looked hot, and I had to tell her that to make her lay off him.
Halloween was something I reserved for my untouched memories of my relationship with Mark, and I no longer had any interest in going out or dressing up.
"I think I'm just gonna take DJ out to go trick or treating this year," I told him. It wasn't entirely an excuse, because truly that was my plan. But Alex had to insist.
"I'm sure you're not gonna keep him out too late. We can make one of them. If you want to, that is," he added on the last part quickly, as if beginning to sense that I wasn't completely crazy about going to a party.
"I don't know, Alex, I don't think I want to."
"That's cool. We don't have to then."
"No, you can go ahead, I don't want you to have to stay behind because I'm not going," I insisted, seeing he was slightly disappointed.
"It's fine, really, I don't mind chilling with you and DJ."
"But the Halloween parties are the best. I don't want you to miss out," I insisted, turning towards him and leaning against his arm as my eyes watched his while he thought. He was so handsome, and his warm eyes made me feel so cozy, I was ready to go back to his house and let him undress me immediately.
"I don't know, I'll figure it out. I do wanna be Top Gun again," he said seriously, and I laughed at how hard his face was as he said it.
He looked at me and smiled, something that caused my heart to do a few back flips. "Okay, well, let's go back," I told him, crumbling our fast food wrappers into balls and throwing them in a trash can outside of his car.
"You don't wanna stay and talk for a while?" He looked serious with that question, too, and it confused me for a second.
"No," Was all I responded, and he smirked, slapping his hand on my thigh and drove to his place.
...
"When do your parents get back?" I asked him when we laid there naked and sweaty, our legs still intertwined from the workout we had.
"I don't know," he said passively.
I looked at him, "Alex!" I scolded, making him laugh.
"They won't be back 'til later, they're at Alleigh's cheer match. They usually go out to eat after that."
"Okay. Good," I said, snuggling further into his naked body, loving the way it felt to hear his heart still race from the work he put in just moments ago. It gave me chills to remember the way he groaned, and the places he kissed me, and the words he called me. I loved being with him.
