Thought you ought to know:
I walked by a dream
You stood by the elm tree,
Tall and leanI saw your shadows dancing in the light
I couldn't chase you,
You were like a deer in flightI saw your eyes through the foliage
I glanced again,
It was just the sun's tender raysI heard your laugh in the raging winds
I spun in circles,
Hoping you could be seenI heard your murmurs , soft and sweet
I looked again,
They were just the treesI strolled by a meadow
Your voice sung to me,
Like the wind blowing through a willowI heard you weep by the stream
I thrashed and thrashed;
The brambles held me back,
It was just a dreamI saw a storm brewing
I couldn't escape;
Was caught up in a web
Of the mess I'd made;
Had to remind myself -
It was just a dream.Or was it?
It felt real , you were so near
I tried to reach out,
You escaped my fingertips,
Just like I'd feared.I couldn't help but watch
My life, like I'd put it in a reverse gear.Thought you ought to know:
I've always regretted
Letting you go.
