Here's To The Life

Here's to the life
That could've been but never was
To us,
Who should've been but never could;
Grappling for opportunities,
Splinters and wood
Cut deep into my skin and soul
Tears ran dry
But never could fill up that hole

Here's to all the words unspoken
Had they been,
It never would've created a rift
As wide as the ocean

So there I lay,
Trembling flesh and bone;
Hopelessly having hoped
We could be one
Had you not said those things,
We still could have had sweet endings

For in their eyes we weren't;
But in mine,
We were a match made in heaven.

I should've known how very wrong I was,
For here I am:
Tending , mending,
Trying to see past the scars.
I believe the fault was on both our parts
But I took the fall
While you flew with my heart.

And so,

Here's to the life
That could've been but never was;

Here's to you and me,
And to our hearts made of glass.
