the open road (imitation of walt whitman's the open road)

(1)

afoot and light-hearted she takes to the open road,

small and innocent yet strong and open-minded,

many paths lie before her and she's got no care in the world.

she doesn't care for their opinions,

and does what she wants with a good heart

although, there will always be a harsh word or two to keep her back,

but she is strong as she travels along.

(she knows everyone is incapable of forgetting their words,

sometimes she accepts them even though they hurt her.

yet she doesn't have the ability to get rid of them.)

(2)

on the road she travels upon, people leave and turn another way,

leaving her with uncertainty as she walks on.

she kindly allows others' to travel on her worn path.

those who are different from her, she doesn't mind the company,

in fact she likes those who stand out and who differ from her.

no one shall be forgotten or left behind for everyone is equal no matter what,

she accepts everyone and when they pass on by she smiles and waves.

(4)

she sees the sun setting, with its arms stretching across the horizon.

for once she feels alive with the sun's glow illuminating across her face,

she's happy now with no care in the world.

yet she has no future planned.

o the regret she feels as she left them behind.

or if they left her should she feel any guilt? should she feel anything from the empty space they left behind?

and onward i travel on this worn path that was walked by many.

i cannot leave you but i should,

yet i love you.

i look back at my past regretting most yet remembering many.

those were the good years that i can never get back.

yet it's time to take to the open road, once again.
