What a title, huh?  Well, the dead guy I am referring to is Daniel from the book of…Daniel.  (Yeah, that was really creative there.)  In Daniel, Daniel was thrown in a den of lions.  Just to clear things up, we’re not talking about lions from “The Lion King”.  And if we were, we’d be talking about Scar.  (You know, the mean uncle who kills Simba’s dad and then moves on to completely ruin the lion’s lives?  Come on, childhood wasn’t that long ago!)  So, just in case I’ve confused you, yes, we are comparing a heroic act of faith in the Bible to a Disney movie meant for four year olds.

Daniel prayed even when he was persecuted.  The king decreed a law stating that no one could pray to any god other than himself.  Daniel obviously couldn’t follow this rule, so he continued on with his regularly scheduled prayer.  When the king discovered this, he was forced to throw Daniel into a deep hole in the ground filled with hungry Scars.  Daniel knew what he was up against.  He clearly understood the law, and knew that praying would get him thrown in the lion’s den.  Now, I’m here to ask, if you knew you were going to get thrown in a lion’s den for praying, don’t you think that you could put off praying for a few days?  Or hide away to pray?  Or just pray in a way that no one would know you were praying?  I’m positive all of these options were carefully considered by Daniel.  I think Daniel was completely following God’s guidance.

He wasn’t asking “Why?” or “Where?” or “When?”  He simply followed God’s lead and trusted that God would take care of him in any circumstances.  I think this should be a wakeup call for us.  Maybe we have thought about being a pastor or missionary, but started thinking of all of the “Why’s”, “Where’s”, and “When’s” and ended up getting so frustrated and confused, and possibly scared, that we just totally gave up.  We want to know all of the details and then say “Ok” to God.   In reality, we should follow God anytime, anyplace, and anywhere.  This all starts with praying daily and reading the Bible and spending time with God.  Then, when He starts to lead us, we can follow with absolute peace knowing He will take care of us.

Challenge:

Read Daniel’s story in Daniel 6 to relate a little better to what Daniel actually went through.  I’m sure his lions made Scar look pretty cuddly.

Hope you enjoyed my thoughts on an old dead guy who lived a couple thousand years ago!

Have a great day and God bless!
