Welcome to Day 2! I’m proud of you for coming back! That is actually what today’s challenge is about- not giving up. Sometimes it is so hard to look at the whole massive project (in our case, a 30 day challenge) and back off thinking, “There’s no way I can do that!” The key is to look at each individual piece of the project (in our case, 1 day at a time) and see how a little bit here and there really builds up to a lot.
This reminds me of the story in 1 Samuel 17. Go ahead and read that chapter now!
Ok, so now that you’ve read that, you’re probably thinking that I’ve gone nuts first talking about big projects and then talking about David and Goliath. Well, let me tell you, that was a big project! Now let’s search your memory a bit. Do remember that little section of the chapter where Saul tries to get David to wear the armor, but it is too big (some translations say it was not comfortable) for David? Yep, that’s what I had you read that whole chapter for. See, David was too small for that armor. He wasn’t ready for it. When you look at a giant project such as becoming a missionary, or a pastor, or getting into ministry, you probably freak out and think there is no chance in the world you will be able to do that! But I’m here to tell you to relax. God will never entrust you with something beyond your ability. In fact, that is what our verse for today is about. (Note: Someone mentioned to me in the comments that sometimes God purposely gives us tasks that are too hard for us to manage on our own. This forces us to rely on God for strength. I love that thought and I think it is true!)
Luke 16:10-
He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.
(Sticky note time!! Pop that up there with yesterday's verse.)
You see, you can’t just one day decide to become a pastor. First, you have to conquer the small things. For me, that means helping out even when I could weasel out of doing it. For you, it might mean walking up to the new kid and befriending them. Whatever it is, you have to start small before you go big. Part of that is growing a relationship with God. You can’t just expect to wake up one morning and be best friends with God and able to quote every verse of the Bible. You have to work at it a little bit at a time.
Your Challenge:
So yesterday we started out with prayer. That’s great, don’t let up on it! Today we’re going to add reading the Bible. You’ve already read a chapter, which is great, but we’re going to go a bit further. Grab your Bible and flip it open to Proverbs 1:1. That’s where we’re going to start. I would recommend setting apart a time every day where you read your verse and pray with your list. Make it your goal to read a bit out of the Bible every day! I highly recommend reading plans designed by someone else, or coming up with your own plan. (As a personal thought, it’s a great way to start the morning!)
Hope you have a great day, and God bless!
-Aly :)
