If you will look at my profile, you will notice that I have verses quoted from the Bible. I have a really hard time picking a favorite verse because there are so many that apply in so many different ways. But the ones I have quoted are some of my favorites. If you read them, you will notice one listed is:
"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, unto the end of the world. Amen." Matthew 28:19-20\
I love this verse. I mean, really love it. To me, this states one of our basic commands as a Christian. The first being to accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior and ask for forgiveness for your sins, and the second command being getting baptised as a proclamation to the world that you are a Christian. I sincerely believe that the next two steps go hand in hand: getting to know the Lord through devotions and prayer, and becoming a missionary.
Now, I'm going to go out on a limb here and just assume that you have accepted Jesus to be your Savior. And seeing as you're reading this, I'll also assume that you are working towards gaining a personal relationship with God. So, assuming all of this, the next logical step is for you to become a missionary.
I know, I know. Most of you just fell out of your chair gasping for air while choking on a carrot that you conveniently were munching on and when you gasped at my outrageous statement. Firstly, if you honestly are choking, get help. Secondly, yes, I meant what I said! You are called to be a missionary. Don't believe me? Go read that verse again. Yes, you are called to be a missionary.
I'm not saying that you are going to be called to go overseas, and if you are don't fight it! But that is another lesson for another day. Right now, we're going to be focusing on being a missionary right where you are! And, I know, you've probably heard this a few thousand times, but how many of you are living it? I'm not pointing fingers here, I'm right with you! Lots of times I find myself being more "Christian-like" in "Christian" atmospheres and just sinking in to the background when in other places. Remember, if you are honestly a Christian, others should know it the first time they meet you!
So here is my challenge to you, and me, today. Live your life like a missionary: every day, everywhere. If you have a friend who isn't a Christian, your challenge is to start talking with them about Christ. This can be daunting, but let's look at it from a different perspective. You might be the person who is going to share the Gospel with them. If you don't, they're going to Hell. It would take effort, yes, but isn't it worth it? Plus, this is our calling as Christians!
I leave you with this thought, I heard a quote today that I instantly fell in love with. It is Jesus talking to a person who just declared their love for Him, but then immediately ran off and disobeyed Him: "You say you would die for Me, but are you willing to live for Me?"
God Bless,
-Aly :)
