Emma’s POV

Matt found out that I snuck out of the house yesterday, so that means that today when I want to go to the old quarry just outside of Mystic Falls. Although I wanted to go to the waterfalls and out town was named after the ones here, I always went to the ones just out of town as no one went there. Just today I wasn’t allowed to go alone.

For some reason Matt thought I was lying to him about going there. I went to the quarry generally twice a week, and I wasn’t prepared to change that routine. Also Matt thought that Jeremy was responsible to keep an eye on me. Granted Jeremy was my best friend so I had no issue with him joining me. Just Matt knew if I wanted to do something I could easily convince Jeremy to do it, and most of the time he also agreed with me.

Just Matt thinks that I am going to either run to vampires today, or I am going to be murdered by vampires as I’ll be on my own in the quarry. It wasn’t nice being underestimated by Matt, seen as I wasn’t going to be killed by vampires any time soon, and Jeremy would probably get me killed by them quicker.

Luckily Matt picked someone who could drive, as I didn’t fancy getting the bus there. Even though Jeremy and I were the same age, I couldn’t drive and he could. Our Mum paid for Vicki to get driving lessons but she was always too high to take them, so Matt took them instead. Then our Mum went AWOL, so Matt and I have to pay for everything as well as going to school, meaning driving wasn’t a priority.

Jeremy drove us both to the quarry. I didn’t really know why he agreed to go seen as he’d probably be really bored from being sat there doing nothing.

When we got there Jeremy got a basket out of the boot, whilst I grabbed my bag, before we made our way to the lake. There was literally nothing here other than a lake with a waterfall, along with a field around it.

“Am I guessing you’re going to leave me now?” He chuckled pulling out a blanket from the basket and lying it down.

“Of course, I came here to swim and dive. I am not letting Matt get in the way of my training. And if you want to join me then you may, but I’m not sitting here doing nothing,” I shrugged.

I pushed off my trainers. I then pulled my jumper over my head, and pushed my jogging bottoms to the floor leaving my clothes in a pile. It did feel kind of weird stripping down to my swimwear in front of Jeremy but I wasn’t going to go and hide to change, and it wasn’t like I was naked, or actually stripping.

“I’m okay, I’ll stay here and eat,” He chuckled pulling food out of the basket.

“Good, I’ll be back soon.”

With that I jogged up the hill to the waterfall. I’m sure this was considered dangerous and no one would suggest it, but I had never been hurt diving from this waterfall and I had done it for years. When I reached the top of the waterfall I dived off of it into the water, before swimming around for a bit. I then got out of the water and repeated it.

Diving and swimming were the only things I was really good at and enjoyed the most. It was a bit of an adrenaline rush, diving was certainly not the safest thing to do, but it was fun. Swimming on the other hand wasn’t as dangerous, well swimming in this lake wasn’t dangerous. It could be kind of dangerous, if I didn’t know what I was doing, but I did.

I carried on diving and swimming for a while until I was getting tired, so I got out of the water and made my way over to Jeremy. When I got to him I pulled my towel out of my bag, sitting down next to him with it wrapped around me.

“Are you done?” He asked putting the book he was reading down.

“Yeah,” I nodded tying my hair up.

“Would you like something to eat?” He questioned pulling various foods out of the basket.

I chuckled at the amount he had packed for us. I had no idea how long we had been here for, but I’m sure he had planned for us to be here for ages with the amount he had brought.

Together we began to make our way through the huge pile of food until there was barely anything left. In this time I had practically dried off, which was good seen as I didn’t particularly want to change in front of Jeremy and there wasn’t anywhere to hide.

I pulled on my jumper and trousers. It wasn’t the comfiest thing, with a damp swim suit under it, but I was okay with it.

“Why did you agree to come today Jer? I’m sure you have been completely bored out of your mind,” I chuckled helping him put away all of the leftovers and rubbish.

“Matt needed someone to come with you, as you know he doesn’t trust you. I’m sorry that it had to be me,” He smiled, “But I thought you’d like the company of your best friend. And it wasn’t boring; I got through a good book.”

“I’m glad you came instead of Matt. He would make me wear arm bands or something. He is too worried about me. I don’t need to have him dictating all of the rules of my life,” I chuckled.

“He cares about you Em. I feel the same way about Elena babying me, but I guess Matt does take it a little further than Elena does,” He smiled.

It was kind of weird how similar Elena and Matt were and how similar Jeremy and I were. It was a little weird seen as there were so similarities and Jeremy and I were best friends whilst our siblings did date at one point.

It was just rather odd. Our lives were so different but kind of still similar. I guess that was why Jeremy and I were such good friends, due to our similarities. But really our friendship was impeccable.
