Emma’s POV
Jeremy and I had about an hour left of our shifts at the grill, and it was practically empty at this point. There were a couple of drunks left at the bar and a couple of people sat in the booths, but I’m sure nearly all of them were about to leave.
Seen as we didn’t have anything to do other than just wait for the costumers to leave we stood by the bar talking.
“So how did your date go, have you planned a second one?” He frowned.
It did worry me how grumpy he seemed talking about the date, or anything involving Kol at all. It was kind of odd how temperamental he was. Jeremy kind of had a temper but nothing ever came of it from something so simple.
“It wasn’t a date Jer. We just swam and dived, nothing more. No romantic kiss under the moonlight, no soft cheek caress- nothing. I don’t see him romantically, he’s a friend, so there is no chance of a second date as there wasn’t a first,” I chuckled, “Now you can stop being Matt’s spy and tell him nothing happened, you know I’m more likely to tell you the truth than him.”
His facial expression softened as I told him this. I let out a soft chuckle; it was kind of sweet how protective he was of me.
“Matt didn’t ask me to ask you anything. I wanted to know that he didn’t do anything to you, and that you didn’t do anything stupid,” He smirked.
“Me? Do something stupid, never,” I chuckled, “I’m fine he did nothing, he was nothing less than a perfect gentleman to me, and I didn’t do anything stupid than test his willingness to drown me, but nothing happened did it, I’m here aren’t I? Well you can see ghosts so I could be one,” I laughed.
He clearly didn’t find it funny; he frowned once again with a glare. He looked a mixture of angry and sad.
“Don’t joke about that Em. It’s not funny. If you died I don’t know what I’d do,” he frowned looking sincerely sad about it.
“Don’t look so sad Jeremy, it was a joke. I won’t die, you wouldn’t let me, and neither would Matt, I can’t leave you both to fend for yourself, you’d set fire to a bowl of cereal if I weren’t here,” I smirked.
“True. You mean too much to me Emma, I don’t want to see you be hurt,” He said softly.
Today I was left to close up the Grill at the end of our shift. Jeremy being him, refused to leave me here on my own and joined e closing up the Grill. Once we had done so we began to walk home until we reached the turning where we’d turn our separate ways to get to our homes, but he didn’t leave my side.
“Are you lost Jeremy? You live in that direction,” I frowned pointing in the general direction of his home.
“I’m not letting you walk home, it’s a full moon, and it’s late, all the creeps come out at this time, and then there are all the supernatural people too,” he shrugged.
“I walk home from work every night and I’m fine, why the sudden concern?” I questioned.
“I don’t know, I just want to make sure you’re safe, I’ve realised how precious the time with the people you care for is,” He smiled softly.
I smiled back in return. How could someone be so perfect but not realise it? Other than hooking up with my sister and that Anna girl, I’d never seen Jeremy actually have a girlfriend, and that was kind of odd. He seemed like someone that everyone would want to date. It slightly crept me out that Jeremy had been with my sister but they ended it before she died, so I was sure he no longer had feelings for her.
“Wow that was deep. Are you dying? You’ve never been so heartfelt,” I smiled softly.
“No, I’m just kind of nervous, and I don’t know how to tell you something,” he said biting down on his lower lip.
I frowned softly looking at him, Jeremy wasn’t one to be nervous about anything, what did he have to tell me? I wasn’t about to stand still to talk to him about this as I was freezing my butt off in the cold wind, so I just wanted to get home, so we could talk and walk.
“Why are you nervous Jer? You know you can tell me anything, we’re best friends,” I smiled warmly.
We stopped just outside of my house. He looked down at his feet, before he sighed, biting his lip once again.
“That’s the problem Emma. We’re friends,” He frowned putting emphasis on the word friends.
“Don’t you want to be friends anymore Jeremy. What did I do?” I asked rather shocked.
Why wouldn’t he want to be friends with me? We were had been best friends for so long, why would he want to stop that now?
“Yeah, I don’t want to be friends anymore. I’m sick of the way we are Emma, friends just isn’t enough,” He frowned.
“Okay well you arse-“ I stopped my rage as his words finally made sense, “friends isn’t enough?”
“I don’t not to be friends with you Emma, you mean way too much for me to not be in your life. I just hate you being so close but so far, I like you as more than a friend Emma, and I know I’ve probably screwed this whole thing up as you won’t like me, like that,” He began to ramble but the grin on my face became bigger with each word.
“Calm it Jer. I like you too. I have done for quite a while, but I never thought you’d like me like that,” I smiled softly biting down on my lip.
He smirked softly. He leant down removing the rather large height distance between us. With a slight hesitation, he pressed his lips against mine lightly for a short moment. As he pulled away I couldn’t help but smile.
“Would you like to go on a date with me, tomorrow?” He asked softly.
“I would love to,” I smiled.
“Well, I’ll see you tomorrow,” He smiled softly in return.
“Bye.”
He said goodbye kissing my cheek. I walked up my pathway to my door turning around and waving at him as he walked away from me.
I let out a soft sigh feeling a happy and rather odd feeling in my stomach that made me realise I really like Jeremy. Turning around I began to unlock the door. Before I could turn the handle and get into the safety of my home, an arm wrapped around my waist whilst a hand covered my mouth stopping the air. I thrashed around, but quickly everything became black.
