Chapter 16: Secrets

My alarm goes off and I loudly grown to myself and slam my hand down onto the alarm and somehow manage to catch my hand and slice it open. I flinch in agony and sit up quickly to inspect my hand. I was used to having bullet wounds and shrapnel trapped in my body but slicing the palm of my hand open on an alarm clock was a whole new different pain - ego pain and this-really-fricking-hurts-a-lot pain.

I grab some tissues from my other side table and wrap a bunch of them round my hand like a bandage until I could find the first aid kit in the house. I slide my feet into my slippers and get up off my bed and head to the laundry room to find the first aid kit.

I use my good hand to pull the first aid kit box off the shelf in order to clean and bandage my hand. Once that's done I put the first aid box back and inspect my hand to make sure the cut is fully covered by the bandage.

I figured I'd be used to getting hurt by now, but I guess feeling like everything has settled does that to a person. I have to try to expect the worst from the day, I shouldn't continue to believe everything is dandy when really things could hit the fan at any point, without any preparation for what sort of things my family could throw at me and everyone else.

Snapping out of my thoughts, I head back into my room to get ready for college. I slip on a pair of grey ripped jeans and a pale cream shear top that I tie a knot in so it scoops over my belly button. I slip into my black Vans before glancing at myself in the mirror. I looked as though I had a rough night out and had ended up sleeping in a bush in a park or something.

I try and brush through my fuzzy brown bedhead hair but end up brushing it up into w bun with a few loose baby hairs out to give my face some depth. I end up not bothering with makeup and am letting my freckled face breath for the day.

I head downstairs and grab my stuff and rush out to try and make it on time ... for once.

I get to college with a few minutes to spare. I run to my locker to switch my books, as people are filing into the designated rooms for class.

"Jordyn!"

I hear my name shouted from down the hall. I peer round my locker door and see Bree walking towards me. I couldn't help but feel happy to see her, I feel like it had been forever since I last spoke to her.

"Hey" I say giving her a hug when she reaches me, "I feel like I haven't seen you in ages, how are you?" She smiles as she pulls away, "I'm good, just wanted to check up on you? I know we haven't spoke since we all went to the amusement park and Grayson hasn't spoke to any of us since we all went to the Theme Park on Saturday. Are you okay?" She asks, concerned. She grabs hold of my hurt hand and points to it.

"Yeah I'm fine, don't worry about me" I smile at her. She links her arm with mine and pulls me along the corridor as we have the same class as one another first; I manage to kick my locker door shut before I got to far away from it.

The halls are beginning to become empty as we make our way through the rare silenced halls to get to our  English class. Once we get to the room we take our usual seats and pull out our supplies ready for the class to begin, considering I already had a detention, I was not under any intentions of receiving another one, even though the last one wasn't so bad, because of Caleb and Grayson. Speaking of Grayson, he was late - once again.

Soon enough our teacher walks in and the lesson begins.

Throughout the entire lesson I was constantly staring at the door, Grayson never showed up. It was like he had vanished out the blue since I last saw him, I was worried about him. I knew his life was just as complicated as mine and it scared me to think something could of happened to him because of his past, or even mine. Or maybe I was in complete disarray and he was in fact with a girl or sleeping in, maybe even taking care of his Grandma. Why should this even be bothering me? It's not like he's my boyfriend.
