Vikk's P.O.V.
I could feel the box in my back pocket as Lachlan and I were getting ready to go on our anniversary date. We had been together for 5 years now and we had decided to do something special, or at least more special than normal as we were a little tight with money, so we were going out to a nice place for dinner and then to a park to watch the sunset.
Leaning my head against his shoulder I yawned into my arm, as Lachlan was struggling to pull his sneakers on. I was a little tired because of the work I had done over that day and the day before and also the amount of time I hadn't been sleeping.
Lachlan noticed because he leaned over and pressed a kiss to my lips, one of his arms snaking around my waist.
"You alright?" He asked, genuinely concerned because he knew my ways of not sleeping or only sleeping when he was beside me. "If you're too tired we can move the date."
I stared at him with wide eyes and shook my head.
"Of course not Lachlan! We've been planning this for like a month, I'm not that tired! Just a little." He gave me the look but continued to tie his shoes.
He looked hot though, he was wearing black skinny jeans, a plain white t-shirt that had the power brand, his brand, on the sleeves, that you couldn't see, the back, that you couldn't see, and a tiny little patch where the pocket normally would be. But the thing that really tied it together was the expensive as hell black leather jacket and damn, he looked good.
He saw me staring and grinned, giving me the same look back. I didn't think I looked as good but still, I was comfortable in what I was wearing and I knew I looked okay. I was wearing light blue jeans that were cuffed at the bottom, heavy combat boots and, something I normally wouldn't wear out of the house, a pastel pink sweater that had a little white love heart on each elbow.
The sweater hid the box in my back pocket that contained the ring that I had painstakingly picked out after months of browsing. Everyone, my friends included, thought that Lachlan would be the one to propose but I was going to break that train of thought by getting there first.
The ring I had chosen for him was something I liked and something I thought he would like, a purplely-blue crystal with small diamonds inlaid in the metal of the ring. It was over-embellished of fancy but it had been expensive because of the crystals. All of the small diamonds were lab grown though, so it was cheaper than it could have been.
I had taken more into consideration his likings than mine because I preferred silver to gold and light coloured crystals to darker ones. He knew this too, but I was pretty sure he had missed his chance to get there first.
"Ready to go babe?" He kissed my lips again and I nodded, letting him tug me up off the bed. He was excited but also visibly nervous for some reason, but I let it go as just anxiety of being out in public.
"Of course. Let's go."
I stole one last kiss before we headed out, and we were on our way.
---------------------------------------------------
The dinner was nice, the restaurant was busy but the service was fast and the waiter and waitress were awesome. I loved the food and where we were sitting was quiet enough that we could talk animatedly about whatever we wanted and we weren't being so loud that it was distracting to anyone else.
I was so happy that I almost forgot that we were heading out to watch the sunset, and that was when everything would go down. It was summer so the sun didn't set until just about 8 at night, so we had plenty of time to take a nice slow drive down to the park and sit down, leaning up against each other.
Lachlan kept sneaking soft kisses and little touches, and I went red every time he moved in to press a kiss to my cheek or forehead or lips, or any time his hand reached over and squeezed my thigh, wrapped around my waist or played with my fingers. He was such a sweetheart, really.
The one thing he didn't know, however, was that about 20 metres away Josh, the quietest of the Sidemen and the one I trustiest to keep a secret the most, was crouched in the bushes with a camera. I had asked him to film my proposal and he had adamantly agreed, bouncing up and down when I told him about it. He was actually the one who I had consulted for a ring choice and he had reassured me that Lachlan would love it.
The sunset was beautiful and the light was just barely hanging on when I made my move, my heart pounding so hard in my chest that I didn't know if I would be able to speak.
Gently I tugged Lachlan to his feet and although he looked at me confused, he did as I directed him. And then I got down on one knee.
I was the conflicted look in his eyes, the shock and confusion but the happiness and joy because I knew how unexpected it was for him. Normally I was terrible at keeping secrets and he could get anything out of me without even trying, but I had made sure not to even hint at it around him. Talking to Josh had helped because it meant I wasn't completely on my own in having this, but still I was surprised that he hadn't picked up on it.
He had his hands over his mouth and I saw tears in the corners of his eyes.
"Lachlan Power-" I said, holding the ring box out so he could see it. "Will you marry me?"
He let out a strangled choke of laughter and then reached around into his back pocket and pulled out a little box. He then got down on one knee, making us almost eyes level.
"No." He said, still laughing. "You'll marry me!"
I was crying by that point, I didn't even see the beautiful ring he was holding out in my direction. I didn't get to examine it until much later when I was crying and my goodness it was beautiful, silver with a light blue crystal on top, embellished with silver leaves and a few other small crystals.
We both stumbled to our feet and embraced in a sloppy and tearful kiss, both of us laughing and crying at the same time. There was a shout of laughter from behind me and I turned to see Josh and Tobi, Tobi of all people, both holding cameras.
Lachlan hugged me tightly and I looked up to see him basically sobbing with happiness, his hands physically shaking.
"Oh my god Vikky, we either have the best timing or the worst timing in the world." I didn't have any words to say so I just hugged him tightly and we went in for another kiss.
We stood there for a long time, crying and laughing, putting the rings on each others fingers, admiring them and then showing them off to Tobi and Josh who had apparently known we would be proposing at the same time but hadn't seen anything. I couldn't blame them though, I would have wanted to see how that turned out as well.
The footage was perfect, honestly. It was beautifully shot with the last remains of the sun in the background and it captured our laughter and out crying, everything.
Lachlan didn't have anything more to say after that and simply hugged me, holding me tightly against him.
"I love you Vikky." He said, through more happy tears.
"I love you too Lachy." I whispered back. "I love you so much."
