Our newly reformed group sat in a circle.
Ren and Nora shared a seat.
I sat next to Blake.
The room was silent.
Yang: . . . so . . . when did you bleach your hair?
Me: I kind of . . . used up all my aura, including, apparently, my ability to create more . . . all of the energy that I use with my techniques . . . and most of my life force.
Weiss: Is there any way to reverse it?
Me: No clue, really. It's like I have nodes for creating those energies, and they're all shut. Gels won't work. I can't even activate dust.
Juane: I guess I can't do much, then.
More silence.
Me: So, who's the new boy?
Ruby: His name is Oscar.
Oscar: I'm the reincarnation of Ozpin.
Me: He comes back? More importantly, he died?
Oscar's eyes glow.
Oscar: That is correct, Mr. Mathis.
Ruby: He also takes over once in a while.
Ospin: I believe the time is right to tell them your secret.
Yang: What secret?
Me: That I'm from another world.
Nora: WHAT?!?
I told them everything. My life. My arrival. Everything.
Nora: WHAT HAVE THESE PAST FEW WEEKS BEEN?!
Ren: Sorry. It's just that we've had a lot of revelations lately.
Me: It's fine.
Juane: So, if we're done with secrets . . . what's our plan?
Ospin: We take the relic to Atlas.
Me: What does that do?
Ospin: It can answer literally any question one can ask, three times a century.
Me: What if the question has no answer?
Ospin: The question will not count. And regardless, the questions have been used up.
Me: So, should we start planning tomorrow?
Ospin: Yes.
Me: I'm going to get some sleep.
I get up and go to my room. I put on my pajamas and hear a knock on the window.
I look and see that there was a woman outside. I opened the window.
Woman: Shh. I'm Raven, Yang's mother and the Spring Maiden.
Me: Why did you come here?
Raven: I want to discuss something with you.
Me: What is it?
Raven: I want to discuss a plan with you. I know about that giant attack.
Me: So what's the plan?
Raven: I have to think of one. Every once in a while, I'll drop in and give you new instructions. What I can tell you now, though, is that we'll take down Salem by the end of this.
Me: Sounds good to me.
I heard a knock on the door. Raven disappeared in a flash of feathers, leaving a note.
Blake walked in.
Blake: Ruby wanted you to have this.
She tossed me a bag.
Inside was an identical copy of my pistol.
Me: Thanks.
Blake: No problem.
She leaves.
I toss the other pistol onto my clothes pile.
I read, memorized, and hid the note.
I went to sleep.
I didn't have any dreams. I slept like the dead.
The next day was a lot of financing (I chipped in a bit), planning, cooking and packing.
We rounded out the day with some training.
I could still dual-wield, but it still took a bit to get it down.
Ruby: Hey, Y/N! Let's try a shooting contest!
Me: Bring it!
And so, we tested our mettle. I was quicker, but Ruby was still notably more accurate, but that was likely due to our guns.
In the end, we came up about even.
Ruby: You sure have improved, Y/N.
Me: You have too. We should get some rest.
Ruby: Agreed.
I went back to my room and crashed.
The next day, we sat at the train station, waiting for our train.
Ruby had gone shopping, and we all discussed the temperature in Atlas. A train whistle sounded out.
Me: I think the train's boarding now.
We all boarded, squaring away our luggage.
Soon, we were on our way to Atlas.
Phase 1: Get yourself back to full power. This one's on you to figure out, but I have no doubt that you'll be capable of doing it.
That was what Raven had written on the note.
I repeated it to myself.
That was my mission.
