The pain was probably what saved me.
I was jolted awake by my whole body crying out in agony. It was like when I jabbed a fire crystal into my arm, but throughout my body, and the pain was ten times worse. Actually, make that fifty.
My one clear thought was, "DISCHARGE IT NOW!".
With an ear splitting roar, I let out as much energy as I could. My vision cleared. The pain went away. I was currently standing in the charred ruins of Salem's realm. The energy discharge had manifested in a giant explosion, apparently.
The pain began to creep up again. I looked around frantically for Salem.
She dove into view, reaching out with razor sharp claws, her mouth moving. If she said anything, I couldn't hear it.
I threw out a sloppy punch. Our fists met in a nearly nuclear display of force.
The pain cleared more. I could now take in my full surroundings, and more. My brain was buzzing, thinking and analyzing faster than it had ever done before in my life.
Salem's arm was gone. Dark tendrils pulsed from the stump, slowly settling into the shape of an arm, reforming itself, obviously.
I threw my hands forward, a blinding cone of light bursting from my palms without any effort from me. My mind got even clearer. I saw Salem jump up to avoid it.
Almost automatically, I jumped at her.
My body dissolved into pure light, solidifying behind my target. I pointed a single finger at the devil before me. A torrent of light energy erupted from my fingertip, driving Salem into the ground and leaving a crater too deep to see the bottom of.
I shot back down to the ground and placed one palm on top of the other, aiming down the crater.
Salem rocketed out of the crater and placed her hand on my face, sending a pulse of dark energy straight into my eyes.
I felt the charge of light energy leave my hands. I couldn't see anything. My light was gone, all of it sealed into that one little spark
I took a deep breath and tried to sense something.
Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Laughing.
An energy . . . to my left!
I sprinted in the direction. I heard Salem laugh and a swoosh of wind. She dodged my attack.
But she didn't stop my true move.
I reached out to the tiny ball of light, which was eking out energy.
My sight returned, the purplish cloud in front of my eyes reduced to nothing.
Salem: Oh that's JUST great. How many tricks do you have?
My response was probably unintelligible, something like "HDVGHSNJNDUHNDHNNDNCHDYADOIAOIJSIFINALMOVEGO".
Salem: A final move? Do show. I'll counter with my greatest power. A clash to remember!
I focused all of my power into my hands and feet and took a breath. The faces of my friends showed up in my mind.
Ruby. Weiss. Yang. Juane. Nora. Ren. Qrow. Oscar. Ozpin. Pyrrha.
Blake.
I wish I could apologize. I wish I could've said good-bye . . .
. . . heh. Like they'd let me go alone.
At least they'll be able to live happily after all this.
With light in my limbs, I surged towards Salem, breaking her stance with a kick and knocking her down to the ground. I landed with a punch to her gut and kept striking her relentlessly, each flashing punch and blinding kick seemingly taking chunks out of Salem's body.
I lept back, gathering all my might into one last blow. As I rushed forward to finish her off, I yelled out the name of my final Arte:
FINAL FURY!
. . .
. . .
I turned around, my breathing ragged as the light energy left my body.
Salem's body looked . . . different. Her unnaturally pale skin had lost the black veins, her hair was blonde, her eyes, usually pools of ink, were incredibly normal.
She looked at her arms, shocked.
I fell to the ground, the adrenaline of the fight completely gone and the pain just showing up.
Salem ran over to me, clearly knowing that I had nothing left in my life. I saw her lips move, but I couldn't hear what she said. I couldn't hear anything.
Huh. I'm definitely in critical condition. Shame I don't have any gels.
After that, my mental state took a dive, probably rambling off any random thought that came to mind as everything slowly went dark, the hard ground seemed to leave my body, and the scent of a nearby destroyed kitchen exiting my nose, which smelled like a few familiar herbs . . .
. . . some of the ones used in my gels. Huh. Ironic.
This definitely felt like the end, but when everything felt like I was going to die, suddenly I saw a tiny pinprick of light, which expanded out . . . revealing . . .
(I won't take years to update this again I swear)
