hyunjin deeply sighed as he looked at his report card. it wasn't bad, but it wasn't enough. he crumpled it up into a ball and stuffed it into his pocket. there was absolutely no way he could go home knowing his parents would ask for it.
it was 6:00 pm and he had just left school. he was suppose to go to a hagwon, but skipped for today. he wanted a break to get away from everything. he wanted to go somewhere where no one could find him
as he walked down the sidewalk he passed by an antique store. the store sign didn't show a name, instead there was a constellation he couldn't identify. the pieces on display caught his attention, and so he entered.
the bells above the door jingled as he opened it. the room smelled of wood and rust.
"welcome to the byeoljari antique store. take your time to look around." said the girl at the front desk, and so he did.
when he decided to leave, he opens the door and finds everything gone. he was staring at the vast outer space. hyunjin immediately shuts the door thinking that he would float away if he didn't.
"w- what is this place?" he asked the girl at the counter.
"an antique shop." she replies in a matter of fact voice, not bothering to look up from her book. he figured she was probably a part time worker related to someone who owned or managed the store.
"w- where are we?"
"inside the antique shop." she deadpans.
he rolls his eyes and marched towards the counter, slamming his palm against it so that it would get her attention. "i mean, this building is floating in outer space. we aren't on earth so where the heck are we? how did we end up here?"
"i work here. the real question is how did you end up here?" she retorts.
"i went inside like any normal person!" hyunjin exclaims.
she shuts her book and looks up at him, "not just anyone can walk into this place because it doesn't exist to them. how did you feel prior to coming here?"
"i- i felt stressed. i wanted to run away, to disappear." he says and her lips curve into a smile.
"i'm eunha and welcome to the byeoljari magic shop. you can decide when you want to leave, but stay as long as you need."
