Ready Player: START (Parzival x Reader)

Just saw the movie and I thought it was so cool! Computer graphics guys! Visual effects! Technology! Parzival's really cute too and I didn't see many fanfics with him, so I was going to write a fanfic anyways, but now I'm super motivated to write this. The guy needs love! Also, since I'm posting this story as I write it, chapters will be sporadically posted and not very often because time management is hard.

FYI, this story is based on the movie, not the book, and because of that, where there are places of doubt or where it's not even talked about (school for example), I'm going on a limb and making stuff up as I go, even if it's not canon with the book.

Wade Watts didn't have many friends. You, were one of the few who was his friend.

"Ugh, this problem set is killing me." You groaned and let your head fall on your desk.

"That's a mood." Your computer spoke back to you. You and Wade had been paired together for a school project a while back, and the two of you discovered that you loved the same things. From that experience, a friendship formed, and now, the two of you are almost always on some voice call with each other, except for when he was in OASIS.

"Do you get this whole u-substitution thing?" you questioned as you frowned at your paper littered with numbers, letters, and integral signs.

He scoffed, "course not."

"Great." You sighed and turned to your notes taken from the day. "So the antiderivative of secant squared is tangent, right?"

"Yeah." Wade's voice responded. There was a pause, "oh! I see it!"

"What? Tell me!" you demanded as you continued to stare at your paper in confusion.

"Replace tangent with u, and then replace secant squared dx with du." Wade explained.

"And then find the antiderivative of u with the power rule, and du just cancels out!" you finished his line of thought.

"Yes!" Wade shouted and both of you cheered.

"Man, if I could high five you right now, I would." You smiled as you wrote down the answer to the problem.

"High five the camera," Wade grinned at you.

"Will do," you smiled back. You brought your hand up to your webcam and Wade did the same. His camera feed turned black, and you assumed yours did too. After a moment, both of you took your hands off of the camera, and you could see Wade again.

"Oh man, it's already that time?" Wade frowned.

"You're going to OASIS already?" you frowned as well. It hadn't felt like long that you were in a call with him, and it made you sad, because you loved being in calls with him and basking in his presence.

"Sorry," he told you, "I have a race coming up."

"All right, I'll see you later." You gave him a sad wave.

"Later." He waved back and there was a little blip, and the call was over. You stood up from your chair and stretched your entire body before heading to your harness hanging from the ceiling. One thing that Wade didn't know was that you also played OASIS. But that was because OASIS was literally an oasis for you. It was a way for you to escape the world, and that meant no connections to the real world. Even to your best friend, because who knows, maybe one day you'd get in a fight, and if OASIS was another place where you hung out, would OASIS also be tainted by the bad relationship? Another small problem was that you pretended to be someone completely different in OASIS. Your character looked nothing like you, and that was because your OASIS character, was a guy.
